West Point Applying to Ivies

Hello All,

I'm a Cadet at West Point who's thinking about transfering to one of the Ivy League Schools et al. Just wondering what you think my chances are of some of the big names (Harvard, Columbia, Princeton) and general advice on where to apply. Here are my stats:

Collge GPA (All Advanced Classes): 4.082
College Class Rank 4/1286
ACT: 31
SAT IIs: 680 Average
College Activies:
Debate (First Place, Liberty University; Third Place Cornell University)
Model United Nations
Chinese Club
Philosophy Club
Theater Arts Guild
Domestic Affairs Forum

HS GPA: 3.94
HS Class Rank 4/119
Major HS Activities:
JROTC (Battalion Commander)
Columnist for Local Paper
Track/Cross Country
Band - President
Campus Ministry

Hey man,

Off the bat, Princeton doesnt accept transfers. Harvard/ Yale are tremendously difficult to get into as a transfer, but give them a shot. I think you have a very realistic shot at these two. Right now, Cornell is by far the easiest on to transfer into and you are 100% in.

What are you looking for in a school? Columbia, Brown, Penn, and Dartmouth are all relatively difficult but I would expect you to get into a majority of these. What are you looking for in a school. All the ivies are different and have unique things to offer.

Stay at West Point soldier. You have been given a rare opportunity many others would cherish.

Besides, as a plebe you are understandably feeling the burn...just suck it up and drive on.

Come your junior year, you will be happy you remained.

sorry, no. if you feel you need to transfer, then transfer. dont let anyone else influence you either way. just remember that after this coming summer, if you stay theres no turning back.

Yeah seriously, west point must be a pretty extreme experience.

It is, but it is equally rewarding. The trouble is, most young people can't handle the regimented life, and the strict nature of the campus. In fact, freshman (plebes) are not allowed off campus their entire first year. I believe there are just two times during the year they can leave. But I think you will find there is rarely, if ever, a WP grad that regrets his choice.

and if he finds that he doesnt like the experience, he should do something about it before he finds himself committed to 2 more years there and 5 years active duty.

Not really. Many people have second thoughts..it doesn't mean you should run away because it is difficult. The simple fact remains, only he knows, thus only he can decide. But I would be willing to bet he would be better off not leaving The Point.

Interesting...all I asked for was chances of getting into some grad schools, and I got life advice.

Anyway, I've decided to stay at the academy, but I suppose that won't prevent you from bickering further about what other people should do, so please continue.

Ah, excellent attitude.

I can see why you are having a hard time adjusting to military life.

There are obvious personal reasons you are thinking about transferring, thus, life advice. Instead of being thankful people even stopped to offer some help, you were a thankless little plebe.

I hope you spend an eternity in the front-leaning rest position.

Sorry if I offended anyone, wasn't the intent. Just a joke.

People only bicker because they do not have as good stats as you do.

exilio, you should spend more time studying and worrying about transferring than yelling at other people.

Sad...

Alan,

Perhaps you should pull your head out of your a$$ before you speak.

Had you actually read, and comprehended what I wrote, you would see my attempt was to help the guy out.

And FYI, I think my 4.0 as a pre-med/phil major is good enough for me. Some people are capable of multi-tasking..obviously you are not one of them.

Now shut up and go lower an interest rate or something.

Interest rates are going up, not down.

"Some people are capable of multi-tasking..obviously you are not one of them."
Please read my past posts of my stats.

Now **** and enough with this childish bickering.

The real Alan Greenspan would never say anything as straightforward as "*nterest rates are going up, not down."
