<p>I wanted to create this thread for those of us seeking acceptance to West Point for Class of 2016. Any questions, comments, concerns, or facts that anyone would like to express are very welcome. This is a trying and stressful time for all of us I'm sure, however, stay strong, keep those grades up, stay active in sports, and I hope to see some of you on R-Day, July 2nd, 2011.</p>

<p>What are the major differences between West Point, Annapolis, and USAFA?</p>
<p>USMA, or West Point, graduates become Officers in the United States Army. This Academy is located in West Point, New York. USNA, or Naval Academy, graduates become Naval Officers. This Academy is located in Annapolis, Maryland. USAFA, or Airforce Academy, graduates become Airforce Officers. This Academy is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The similiar quality in all three is the common mission to create elite, intelligent, steadfast, and successful leaders and Officers for the United States Military Forces. All are ranked within the top 25 schools in the country, and all are very competitive. I reccomend researching the three Academy’s to find more information. I can tell you that the physical requirements are less demanding for the Airforce Academy, as opposed to USMA and USNA. However, USAFA cadets usually have the highest grades in their math and science classes. This is not a solid fact, however, I have been told so, so I am passing on the information… </p>

<p>do you have to get accepted before a coach can “recruit” you or can they do that anytime? and if you are being recruited does that help with your application?</p>
<p>s12zlinsenior, you must create a candidate file with USMA first. Also, you must contact the Athletic Director as well as the Coach for the sport you are interested in to advise them of your interest. West Point participates in Division I athletics, meaning competition is at its highest level. Recruitment for the respected team will be very competitive to say the least. Get involved in showing interest now, keep your grades up, and make sure you score high on the SAT and/or ACT. (Take them multiple times!)</p>
<p>When are the admissions board meeting dates?</p>
<p>From what I understand, the Admissions Committee meets every Tuesday (started on Oct. 11) until Class of 2016 is complete! Good luck!<br>

<p>Hey does anybody know what this letter I got from West Point means. It started off with: </p>
<p>“Admissions Committee has reviewed your application and you have been found fully qualified. Although fully qualified, we have not yet recieved a nomination for you. No offer of admission is possible without a nomination.”</p>
<p>I’m not really sure what it means. Thanks a lot for your help.</p>

That sounds to me like an LOA which is the academy basically saying if you get your nomination you will get an appointment. However, I could be wrong. Log on to your DoDMERB account. if you dont have one or never log onto it, go to the website and it will allow you to create one. If you’ve already taken your DoDMERB medical exam then you will be in the system and your file will already be in there you just have to create a username and password. When you log onto DoDMERB it should say Application status on the left side, click on that and it will show West Point, then it will either say qualified or LOA. LOA means letter of assurance. Qualified just means you’re qualified. Mine just says qualified… I am still waiting on the day I receive an appointment becuase I already have my nomination.</p>

For clarification purposes, if you recieved an LOA you would have seen the words “Letter of Assurance” in the letter you recieved. I believe you recieved a “Fully Qualified” letter which means that USMA finds that your are Academically, Physically and Medically qualified. It is a very good step in the right direction!</p>

<p>That makes me feel a lot better. Okay so with all that being said. I have been nominated by my congressmen to all 4 academies. I see my nomination is in my candidate portal and my updated SAT scores are in. I have also been told by my Liason Officer that I am Qualified. I passed for DoDMERB at the beginning of August so that is good there. All I am waiting on is an appointment. </p>
<p>What do you think my chances are:
-100% complete with everything
-100% Qualified for everything (medical/grades/scores)
-I have a nomination to West Point and USNA, USAFA, & USMMA from the same congressman.
-My SAT Critical Reading is 620 & my SAT Math is 550
-My ACT overall is 29. Critical Reading: 25 Math: 30
-I play 3 sports at my high school. 3 of them varsity and one of them varsity all 4 years of high school.
-plenty of volunteering and coaching
-Captain on softball team
-student body chairperson
-Pres of a club
-Represent Youth in my County on the Board of Directors
-Also Went to Italy for softball
-GPA is 4.13 & Class rank is top 10%
-I take college classes (dual-enrollment)</p>
<p>Anyway… Obviously my resume is great. I am extremely involved and athletic. HOWEVER, the question is… IS all THAT enough plus a nomination to get me an appointment even though my SAT and ACT scores are just average. </p>

<p>how did you get contacted for your physical? My daughter has had all her info in the portal, and received a letter back in early Sept saying–you will be contacted for your physical. Still haven’t been contacted. Are we missing something?</p>
<p>02hockeymom, you will receive a letter in the mail and/or email stating that your daughter is ready for the medical qualification step. In this letter or email there will be simple instructions on how to log onto the DoDMERB website and create an account for your daughter. After your account is created, your daughter will be asked to answer several medical history questions so that DoDMERB can determine anything they want doctors to keep an eye out for. After completing these questions, you will be directed to a page listing doctors offices in you area in which your daughter will be able to receive her optometric and physical exams. Pick the offices(s) closest to you. You will have to call and schedule the appointment with that office yourself. It is very important to remember that the job of scheduling and attending your daughters appointments rests solely on your shoulders, not DoDMERB. After scheduling, your date and time will appear on the DoDMERB account. After attending the scheduled time, the physician will input the data and have it sent to DoDMERB right from their office. You will be able to log onto your account and see that your Date Scheduled and Date Received have been updated, saying that your daughter attended her appointment. About three to four weeks from the time the appointments were conducted, your daughter, and West Point, will receive information in the mail concerning whether your daughter has passed and is qualified, or if she is unqualified, in which case she will have to get a waiver; however if your daughter is healthy and hasn’t faced any major illnesses, she should be fine. My recommendation to you call the DoDMERB headquarters toll free at 800-841-2706. Select Option 2 for the Help Desk. Ask them why your daughter has not received a letter containing further instructions on the physical. Don’t let up in trying to get her appointments scheduled. This is a crucial time in the USMA Appointment process. Fully qualified and strong Candidates will be receiving Appointment letters weekly in the mail starting next week. If all else fails, call USMA directly to seek assistance. Their number can be found on the candidate portal, as well as her Liason Officer’s number. <p>crossfit23, although your resume seems to be “great” please don’t get ahead of yourself. Consider the amount of fully qualified candidates in this nation, myself being one of them. Then consider the amount of students applying to West Point; 11,000+. I must say that your resume is very good indeed, however, there is always the chance USMA will not take you. Stay humble and level headed. Be excited because you very well may get what you seek, but stay open-minded. I will venture to say your chances of appointment are very good. I cannot deny the fact that your enstated list is impressive, and notable. I don’t see any reason that you would be turned down. Hope to see you on R-day, July 2nd, 2012. Best of luck to you.</p>

<p>Not sure how you think you already have a NOM from your MOC. Typically, they meet before year-end to review all of the candidates, conduct interviews and then who decide which candiates will get NOM’s. That process is still underway for this year, so I am not sure what you are referring to.</p>
<p>crossfit - Excellent resume and you appear to be a very strong candidate, but there are other factors including how competitive your Congressional District/State. There are plenty of stories of those who are fully qualified and have a nomination but end up not receiving an appointment – “qualified no vacancy” is official term I have read in my research. Keep pushing forward and trying to improve!</p>
<p>As you may know, USMA Admissions calculates a Whole Candidate Score and it is based upon 60% Academics (SAT/ACT Scores=30% + Class Rank/GPA=30%), 30% Leadership(Athletics, EC’s, Teacher Recs), 10% CFA. </p>
<p>Your ACT is right around the Mean for those accepted in Class of 2015. If it is possible, take ACT again and it does not hurt to try to improve as USMA superscores each ACT section.</p>

<p>02hockeymom - I would be proactive and log onto DoDMERB site and the information should be in the system if USMA has sent the data upload to DoDMERB. <p>thanks for the sites, but they were no help. The first one said she is not in the system, and the second one requires a user id which you apparently get in the info you receive from DoD–which we don’t have. </p>
<p>Do you happen to know if they only send you the info to schedule your physical if everything in your candidate portal is green? English teacher is lagging and keeps saying he will get to it, and the guidance counselor says he sent everything in weeks ago but it is still showing as yellow.</p>
<p>frustrating because everything that is holding this up is something that can’t be controlled/changed by DD.</p>
