West Point. How are my Chances?

Hello,

I am now a junior in high school. I've always wanted to be a part of the greatest military on the planet and also continue my education. I think getting into West Point is one of the highest honors a young student like myself could ever get. I was wonderinng how my chances are of getting into West Point and I want to see what I have to improve to improve my chances. This is my current profile:
1.Academics
-3.5uw and 5.4 wgpa (im going to get that 3.5 higher this year and next)
-currently in IB
-have taken 4 AP classes (calc, human geo, environmental sciences, and macroeconomics) in my first two years and taking 5 more this year (Gov, Language, US history, Biology, and Chemistry)
-I think im in all honors (I have no idea what IB calls their classes, just IB biology or IB "the class name") (If you guys know how IB does it i take: HL English, History, Bio and SL math, chem and span)
-I havent taken the official SAT yet but i got 2000-2200 in the practice ones ive taken.
2. Athletics:
-2 years tennis (preparing for tournaments in the spring and summer)
-Black belt in To-Shin-Do
-Track and Field since last year
-Will join a club soccer league over the summer
3. Clubs and EC
-in NHS (cant run for officer until im a senior)
-FBLA and going to states for that
-Debate club
-in a cricket club
-UNICEF club
-I will most likely get officer positions in FBLA, NHS, Cricket and UNICEF
-I also plan on going to boys state

If anyone could tell me how im doing and leave feedback that can help my chances I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank You

You have a lot of good stuff. Academics and athletics are key of course, but you need leadership. Leadership may be the biggest thing they want at West Point because well…that’s their specialty, training leaders. Other than that you’re on the right track. If you could get captain on the tennis team and cricket club, that would help too.

So if i get leadership positions in those clubs (not sports ones) in senior year would i have better chances. And i doubt i can make it to captain on tennis cricket or track. The kids on there have been competing and playing their whole lives (especially tennis and cricket). If i cant get a captain position does it hurt my chances?

You need a Congressional nomination to have any chance at WP.

It’s not a deal breaker, especially if you can get leadership positions in a few of your other ECs. All the cadets that have come from my son’s HS are what I would call “the full package”…very smart, better than average athletes, and extremely service oriented. UNICEF is good…bulk that up if you can by taking on extra projects or coordinating special efforts at your school. Have you started working on your rec letters. I know those are key too. Good luck!!

Not being a captain won’t kill your chances, don’t worry. The school knows that captains are generally the best on the team so as long as you have letters from track and tennis that’ll be ok. The fact that you’re doing sports is the main thing.

Exactly. Leadership is incredibly important. Try running for class office or being involved in SCA, even starting a club would help.

I was very interested in West Point myself, and considered applying. It seemed to me that the main things for them (in no particular order), are: Leadership (in anything), athletics, and academics. You have good grades, and you’re involved in athletics so just get some leadership and you’ll stand a good chance! And make sure to get that congressional recommendation!

Yes i am starting to work on the congressional nominations. I forgot to mention that i do a lot of community service as required by IB and some clubs. I am most likely going to get leadership positions in some clubs and i also forgot to mention that i am the leader of our children’s group at my temple.
