west point not for me.

Hey guys, I'm a sophomore at West Point and am looking to transfer to W&M, UVA, or GWU as a poly sci/int'l relations major. Here's a few facts about myself.

Current GPA: 3.2
HS Sr. Year GPA: 4.4
SAT: 1280
Military experience
extensive band, athletic, leadership, and other ec's

Keep in mind with my GPA, I'm a double major of Spanish and International Relations, with a minor in Nuclear Engineering. That means I have taken at least 20 credits per semester at one of the nation's top universities. I pretty much decided that the military lifestyle is not for me anymore, I've done it for way too long. Do I have a chance?

I forgot to mention that West Point adds .5 to the GPA when the send the transcript to colleges. I will also have a strong essay and reccomendations.

hey i actually dropped out of west point during this year's beast and went to CMU.
I was in D Co. during CBT and I left because I thought that west point has a too much hooah and not enough intellectual contemplation. my platoon sergeant was a prick as well.

as a yearling with a 3.7, you should have a really good shot at these schools; you may want to take some SAT 2's to show your new and improved skills but its not neccesary. I'm sure you can get into these schools.

why is it that you're leaving besides just the military lifestyle? anything about west point itself?

hey, thanks. I'm in the same boat. I came here looking for a prestigious school with great academics, solid character development, and a chance to get out in the world and help people. That all died when I went to CFT. My eyes were opened to the "real west point". The one where abrasive personalities, Infantry mindsets and killing things is the top priority. I still want to serve my nation, but just not in the Army...I'm looking at a CIA scholarship presently.

i've always been under the impression you can transfer out of west point to pretty much anywhere you want ...west point students are safe bets

even with a realatively low GPA?

A 3.7 isn't relatively low. You should get into those schools.

i would think you could even pick a few more selective schools, for IR have you thought about georgetown? I'm sure a catholic school would like military students

well, I'm not certain about the .5 being added on, its just romurs from people that have looked at transferring. with about a 3.3 do I stand a chance at the schools I listed, as well as possibly Georgetown?

With a 3.3, I'd think you'd get into GWU and W & M, UVA would be a bit of a reach. That's normally, west point kind of has an awe attatched to it...so perhaps with good essays/recommendations you'd get in.

"with about a 3.3 do I stand a chance at the schools I listed, as well as possibly Georgetown?"

i would say you do seeing as how being at west point shows you have very high moral character, self-discipline, motivation, etc. etc.

IE: why i sasid west point students are "safe bets"

I would take a west point student with a 3.2 over a georgetown student with a 3.8 any day, then again i'm not an admissions officer but i'd be suprised if west point didn't carry a significant amount of weight

alright, hey thanks alot guys!
