I just want to know for a guy what the packing list looks like any previous examples what is allowed and what is Prohibited.
I also wanted to know about bringing Ipods?
Also WHat Lap top are the class of 2011 being issued anyone know?
Can you bring your own if you want to?
One other thing if I did not bring my own could I bring what I wanted and load it onto their computer they give me or are all thos discs and things considered contraban?

Laptops are issued and you have to use the one you are given. Downloading music is considered an honor violation, so your best bet is to buy an external hard drive and load everything onto that

so we can bring our own external hard drives from home? and, assuming we have off campus leave, could we go to a sponsors house, download stuff onto our external hard drive, and then bring it back to our rooms on campus?

also, is there a policy on webcams and video ims?

Webcams are good, a buddy of mine uses it to talk with his girlfriend; I'm not really sure what video IM's are. A word of caution about bringing your own stuff though. Make sure NONE of it is illegally downloaded. They will bust you down for that. We're allowed to use Ruckus here, which should legally satisfy all your music needs, so it's not even worth it to try and sneak a few shady downloads by them.

When people say take away do they mean throw away like you won't see it ever again or will they just take it away and give it back to you after a certain amount of time.
Another thind If I were to bring stuff like games to put on to the computer they game me would can I do that or should I just put all that on an external hardrive and bring that with me?
What is spunk?

lol youre thinking a little too literally with the "spunk" thing. i think they were referring about attitude- bring the right attitude for beast and plebe year; make your upperclassman laugh, but be professional at the same time; make them like you essentially.

Many new cadets and parents ask whether a computer already on hand will suffice in place of the issued computer. This is possible in rare instances upon written approval of the Associate Dean for Information and Educational Technology, Attention: MADN-IETD, Building 600, West Point, N.Y. 10996.

However, approval is very difficult for several reasons. The standard cadet computer is carefully chosen to be compatible with the USMA network and cable television systems. Standard computers are issued with a pre-installed suite of software specially designed to support the academic program and to interact properly with the faculty and staff. They have a four-year on-site warranty for repairs. Because 1,200 or more computers are purchased at once for the incoming class, cadets pay less than $2400 dollars for a system whose equal (including four years of on-site warranty repair service) would cost more from retail or mail order sources. A computer provided in lieu of the cadet computer must match or exceed the specifications of the USMA-provided computer in all areas including the warranty. Moreover, our small software support staff prioritizes work on standard computers ahead of all others. A new cadet furnishing his/her own computer will have to do software installation and maintenance including network configuration with very little help. Configuration errors that have adverse impact on other people using the network are not permitted. Few fourth classmen will want these additional burdens in their already full schedules.

I was wondering if I should bother bringing my knife to beast. I think I heard somewhere that it would be useful but if the blade is over 3 inches, it's a regs violation. Is this true?

my brother is in his 2nd year at West Point, and he highly recommends bringing a knife to beast. You never know what you will need one for. And it is true that you CAN NOT have a blade over 3 inches long.

In one of the books I received from West Point, there was a list of about ten things we are allowed to bring. A knife/multi-tool was not listed. If I bring one, although useful, won't they confiscate it?

It's great to have a knife for slicing open MRE's quickly, if you're in a hurry sometimes those tough plastic pouches can be a pain to get open with your teeth.
