West Point SLE 2016

Hello all,
I just applied today to SLE and was wondering when I should expect an email of denial/acceptance? I heard some people got theirs a week later, whereas others got it after the deadline. Thank you in advance.

Hey
I just got an acceptance email today, and I applied a couple weeks ago. Wonder what the acceptance rate is?

@college61728 Congrats!! May I ask what your application generally was like? Like SAT scores, clubs, sports. I just applied last Friday but just wanted to get an idea of what they want

About 1 in 8 are offered an SLE slot

Yeah so SAT was like 2300, ACT 33, class pres., sports leadership, boy scouts

pretty much stereotypically what you’d expect, I guess, as far as extracurricular go. Anyone else receive a decision?

@Wje9164be where did you hear this? I had no idea it was this selective?

Do they look at the composite/superscore or just verbal and math? I heard differing opinions and wasn’t sure. My CR score is low 500s and my math is almost 700 (superscore 1900), so I wasn’t sure if they’d automatically reject me because my verbal wasn’t high enough even though I have 10 clubs, 3.9 ish GPA, and all varsity letter sports. I also sent my SAT score online through College Board because i was told my an officer that I had to, so I guess I was supposed to do that (?). Also it says on their site that they accept 1,000 out of 6,000 applicants.

@purpledog354

Hey man

I don’t think you have to send official scores; I just uploaded scores through the candidate portal and was accepted. I’m pretty sure they only consider math and CR on the SAT, but you are able to upload all 3 scores if you go to the testing section through the portal and edit your scores. I feel like the selection process it pretty highly based on test scores, GPA, leadership, and athletics. So your GPA, varsity participation, and any leadership should work in your favor.

I just got accepted today too with 31 ACT and 4.6 GPA. Not really sure if I can attend anymore because I have finals that week of session 2.

The following is from my other thread. I’m not hopeless, but I don’t know anyone that got accepted with that kind of verbal score, considering it’s below average for normal applicants.

Sports: (all varsity)
Freshman and Sophomore: soccer, lacrosse
Junior: cross country (first year captain), unified strength and conditioning, lacrosse

Congrats @clichescreenname !

@purpledog354 Thanks! And I think that you have a high chance of being accepted because you have way more high-quality ECs than me! Good luck!

@clichescreenname Thank you! Hopefully it neutralizes my verbal score (:

Stats are on USMA admissions website. I double checked and its 6,000 applications and 1,000 attendees. Some are probably invited and choose not to attend so it’s a bit less than 1 in 8. As summer programs go though, that’s pretty selective

Does anyone know how PSAT scores come into play for SLE applications? It asked to list the score if I took it which I did so I submitted the score, but because of my SAT score I don’t know how that’s going to be significant. Maybe they want to see how much you improved? And @Wje9164be it is, because I heard that NASS selected 2550 out of 8000 last year, which is 32% as compared to SLE’s 17%.

I think PSAT is what they look for because many applicants won’t have an SAT or ACT by January of junior year. Not sure if they look at best of both scores or what. If you go, you will probably enjoy it although there is not a lot of free time. I’m a grad and in the field force ( volunteer regional admissions) if you have any questions, PM if you like

I don’t remember them asking for my GPA when I applied for SLE about 2 weeks ago? Am I just remembering wrong all they asked me for were my test scores.

@tupad17 they don’t

So they base acceptance off your test scores and EC’s essentially?

They base it off of pretty much everything in bits. They look at your standardized test scores, extracurriculars, sports, leadership, special recognitions, etc. but also put it all together to determine what kind of person you are. Even if your SAT score isn’t on par (like mine), you can still get accepted as long as your application reflects your potential as a candidate and shows that you have somewhat the basis of what they want.

Awesome tank you so much! My GPA is a 3.65 with all honors and AP classes but I’ve only taken the act one so far and it came out to a 28 I didn’t study that much for it I just wanted to see where my starting score was. However I feel like my athletic record and EC’s hold up well. My application status is still pending but I’m holding out hope!

No problem! That’s around what I got in conversion to my SAT, but my CR subscore was on the lower end while my math was decent so it was a bit lopsided. I was extremely worried about my score but I think my clubs and leaderships backed it up and that might help you too. How long ago have you applied? Some people I talked to on here got accepted after 2 weeks but they had pretty strong stats, but I got accepted today after 2 and a half weeks and my application wasn’t as competitive in my opinion. I don’t think your score is bad at all though. You should keep studying for it, but it’s a good score, especially for a starting one
