West Point SLE 2016

Hey everyone. Week 2 happens to be during my finals week so what would happen if I said “I am attending” but don’t show up? I know this sounds irresponsible but I’m really torn as I don’t really want to miss finals week and don’t want to lose my once in a lifetime opportunity of attending SLE. Please any suggestions???

Hi! I recently got accepted to SLE last week. I’m Long Island, NY. Any other girls out there?

@clichescreenname I would talk to Mrs. Oliver. Her email is on the portal somewhere and she’s helped me with my application a ton. She’ll respond to you within a day or two at the most. @grooviesmoothie congrats!! I’m a girl too, and from MD. What session are you in?

I still need to send in the paper work but I’m hoping to get into week one because it is further away from my finals @purpledog354. I’m so happy I know of another girl going haha I read the ratio of boys to girls is 6:1 but we should be fine

Omg same! And jeez so there’s only lime 180 girls! Do you have any social networks? @grooviesmoothie

@clichescreenname Ask your teachers if you can take the finals a week early.

Are they going to send out rejection emails? Do you know when they’ll send them?

I was accepted to USNA’s summer seminar but I was really hoping to attend SLE…
I can only attend one and USNA gave me the deadline of 3/20 to make the payment and turn in the release forms so I’d rather be rejected from SLE now then to sign up for summer seminar to only find out I could have attended SLE or not sign up for summer seminar expecting to be accepted into SLE. Right now my SLE portal just says pending…

@greetings12 For SLE I got an acceptance email 2 and a half weeks after applying so I have no clue about rejections. If it says pending I don’t think you got rejected and they’re still processing your application depending on when you sent it

@purpledog354 That’s the thing, though. I submitted my application over a month ago, on Feb. 4, so it isn’t looking too great for me, especially since it’s rolling admissions. Congrats on getting accepted!

@greetings12 Thank you! I would contact the lady in charge of that; her name is Commilia and she can help you with application issues. I feel like you should have heard by now after 5 weeks, but it might be that they’re just overloaded with applications. What state are you from? I know that if you’re from NY it’s hard to get into SLE and MD for NASS (not that it’s impossible)

I’m from Texas so I don’t how that affects my chances.
Thanks for the contact recommendation! I’ll look into it.

@greetings12 sure thing! If you’re from Texas that would help your application a lot because from what I heard the summer programs are more marketing-oriented, meaning that they are selective in terms of academics, leadership, clubs, etc. but if you’re from a state in which you can’t really drive up to NY and visit for their Candidate Visit Weekend (or whatever it’s called) then they’re more likely to want to give you the chance to still experience West Point so that you can still gain a perspective

Do you know when acceptances or rejections will be sent out? I applied in January and I still haven’t heard anything back

Does anyone know if pending means they have not looked at your application yet or by this point it is a no? I’ve gotten in the Air Force Academy’s SLE, but waiting on West Point still. I applied rather early so im guessing its not looking great.

Mine said pending until today… I wasn’t accepted. But, like you, I got into the Air Force SLE so that’s good news. I applied to Navy’s too but haven’t heard back yet so I’m assuming it’s also a no.

Looks like I’m late to the forum. Literally like a few days after I sent in my application for the West Point SLE, I got an acceptance letter through email. Yes, the acceptance is on a rolling basis, so it’s good to apply early (I swear, the first day the application portal was open, I sent in mine). When my older sister went to Naval Academy, she initially had no interest in going, but her counselors was persistent in making sure she applied. She applied suuuuper late, but still got accepted. Though it is on a rolling basis, they still do look at your credentials. I think because we’re minorities (black female here haha), we had a little of an advantage, but even so, credentials set you apart. I’m from Texas too haha. Good luck!! x

I’m from MD but got waitlisted for naval. Does anyone know the odds of being able to go from waitlist? I can’t go anyway but I just don’t know how competitive I am in the pool of apps.

@purpledog354 I don’t know that well, but from what I’ve seen by people I know who’ve went, there’s some type of chance you can go from waitlist. I had a friend who was waitlisted for Air Force, then a few weeks after, got accepted off of watilist. I wouldn’t give up hope if I were you.

For West Point SLE attendees, do you get a package in the mail with information? Or is it all done online?
