I was just wondering what are the qualifications to get into west point because i have a 4.2GPA and am very intersted in taking the next steps to get in

Isn't a governer's recommendation required or something?

you'd better be strong.

You need a senator or (I THINK) a House of Representative person reccommending you. Also, you have to be very fit and they will give you a physical test. Uh let's see, I've heard that if you can do the two above, you are in business and going to actually be placed in the "real" admission pool.

Please correct me if I am wrong. I vaguely remember what my cousin told me four years ago about it

Visit the USMA-West Point forum(under Colleges, Service Academies, US Military Academy). They have more (and better) advice than I do.

To be a strong candidate you need grades(you have), ECs, leadership, and commitment. If you are a junior, write to your Congressman and Senators. Request their applications for a Service Academy nomination. Also, contact West Point and ask to be put in their potential candidate list. They should send you more information. You should ask your guidance counselor for any info they have.

Good luck!

I'm also applying to West Point, but I'm having second thoughts about going. Talk to your high school counselor about it, and have him/her hook you up with a representative from West Point. Also, keep in mind that West Point is a military academy, not a college. Military service comes first, academics second.

oh yeah, start working out. Check their website on the physical fitness test.

Only go if you are sure, and if you really are interested in the military. Do not go just for the free tuition. You would do better to go to your state school on loans than to go to West Point and not fit in.

not necessarily to not fit in..but you wouldn't want to go to West point and get left behind as far as physical training, parading, marching, uniform upkeep, communal living, and downright being extremely disciplined and self disciplined....if your truly up to it West Point is one of, if not the best, military academic establishment in the nation., and an excellent option for those wishing to go into Military Service..however it's no place for the weak hearted so be sure its something youreally want to wholly commit to.

The campus is absolutely stunning, the student body is so damn polite. I love West Point. With that said, I wouldn't have fit in. So do some more research, as others have suggested, to see if that's a career that you're interested in.

I used to recruit former military with degrees from West Point. I'd catch them as they were leaving the service. Not one told me that they'd live their lives any different.

If it's the right path for you, then you can't do better than West Point.

yeah, my boyfriend is considering west point. you have to get a nomination from someone importent or who is given nominations, such as the president, senators, some military officals. he got one from someone in his jrotc thing. after you get the nomination, then to get into west pt, you have to get an appointment. im fuzzy on details but ive gotten that much.

you have to do a physical test, stuff like running the mile, sit ups, etc. You have to be really fit cuase its really compeditive. you also get checked out medically too. and thats pretty strict, stuff like asthma and bad **** like that will get you DQ'd automatcilly. some stuff you can get waivered for tho, but it takes a long time.

you also need to be pretty high up acedemicly. extra curriculars, and perferably lots of good leadership, cuase that is huge there.

he also went to the summer seminar and he really liked it. like roaring mice said, its a beautiful campus. you have to be really dedicated tho. Pleeb year (first year) is really hard he says. you only get a few leaves to leave campus, and its just really strict in general. thats a really tough beast+four years. its a simply amazing college, but you have to be really to really want it and work hard. all in all, it would be an amazing oppurtunity to go, but if you arent determined and hardworking, your doomed.

it's not West Point, but i'll assume it's reasonably similar...my friend got into the US Naval Academy in Annapolis with 3.7ish GPA, definitely not all honors classes (hell, her senior in english, she was making up work for the last 3 or 4 weeks of each semster :p)...but she did really excel in sports (track and basketball, possibly captain in one of her teams), and i think she had some strong volunteer hours. she got her recommendation from our district Representative.

she's heading out there this fall with a major in English...i believe most programs there are 5 years, so that might be something to consider. also, she starts PT soon after our graduation. they're telling her to start running a few miles everyday now to get used to it.

Also remember, women have their admissions paths paved in gold at most military academics, who are desperate to get more women.

I know a 25 year old guy who went to West Point. He is now a tennis coach. I kid you not, he is one of the most polite, kind, and interesting person I have ever met. He is really easy to talk to, as if you are talking to one of your teenage friends, and he is really down to earth and considerate. He always wants to know what's happening in my life. He also got into Penn, by the way. He's so funny and cool too. I just thought I'd add that for everyone considering West Point; that is a taste of the kind of people you will be around.
