west poyeeent

I want to go there really bad but Im not in rotc. I wonder if they will question my dedication (although I am in tae kwon do). If I apply early decision will that help assure them I want to go serve? Ive wanted to be in the military all my life but never really seriously until recently have i thought about it.

I was in the same position as you were, but I joined jrotc senior year (haha, senior walking around as a pvt) but anyhow, it was a good experience. However, I dont think that jrotc is really necessary to get into usma, it just helps a bit on your application. But if your grades, SATs, and extracurriculars are great you shouldn't have anything to worry about if you werent in jrotc. And by the way, i thought West Point did away with "early decision"? Anyhow, apply as early as you can and good luck in your pursuit of appointment!

There is no early decision. Saturday, what all have you been involved in? Do you know about having to take the PAE, interview, and all that jazz? I wasn't in ROTC; my school didn't have it--but I was given an LOA. Academyguy is right, it probably doesn't matter all that much unless you've been in it for years.

Saturday,
My daughter received an LOA in July and had no JROTC, scouting, etc experience. It might help strengthen a candidate's file, but it certainly doesn't hurt it not being in JROTC.

No i didnt whats a pae? And im guessing an loa is letter of appointment

But thats good thanks for ur help guys

PAE= Physical Aptitude Examination...are you in shape or not?
LOA= Letter of Assurance...guarantees an appointment pending a nomination, passing the DoDMERB medical exam, and passing the PAE, among other things...
Good Luck!

Hey Saturday, you might want to check this site out http://admissions.usma.edu/apply.cfm and read the prospectus. It will fill you in on EVERYTHING from learning about life at West Point to information about PAEs, LOAs, DoDMERB, etc in great detail. Have fun reading and once again, good luck!

to get an loa, what kind of SATs did you have,
Also- what else is looked at for one, because usually the complete application is not in, right?

There really is no "magic" SAT score to get an loa just make sure you get everything in early, have a good mix of leadership, grades, sat scores etc, and you have a chance... once again remember to get everything in early but take time to ensure you put all of your information there and that it is correct. Tip: Put all of the info you can on the pre-candidate questionnaire!…. It is possible to get an LOA with WP only having your SAT scores and your precandidate questionnaire, indeed there were a few on this forum that got LOAs before they even got their official candidate package. Good luck!

I had a 1420 (800 english, 620 math). I also filled out the Precandidate Questionnaire as a Freshman. :)

marines4me are you attending west point right now?

Im also trying to fill out the pre-candidate questionnaire and i dont know what my congressional district is and when i click on the button it takes me to the other website but its not showing the page when i type in my zip code.

Takingbacksaturday:

You can get your representative's district by going to the following site:

http://www.house.gov/writerep/

Good luck

TakingbackSaturday, I'm not at West Point yet. I'm a Cadet Candidate, and I report on June 27th. If you can't find out your district, go to google and enter +name of your county +congressional district

Hopefully that will find it for you.
