My incoming LSA freshman S just learned he was assigned a double in West Quad. Pros & Cons?? He is happy about location on Central Campus, but will he be housed with enough Freshmen to get that real freshmen experience? Would love to hear from students who spent their Freshman year in West Quad. Thanks!
West quad is the best dorm. Just renovated and connected to union. Huge rooms and air conditioning. Only downside is that you have to walk to south quad to eat which is right across the street. Your son is very lucky to get this dorm and there are plenty of freshmen
It really depends on your kid. Very social, Greek leaning kids often find West to be not social enough and long for Makley or another Hill dorm much to the consternation of some ( often parents) who can’t imagine trading the very nice dorms and connection to the union for the disgusting pit that is Markley. But it is easier to meet people in all freshman dorm. Also if there’s a stretch of really bad weather the having to go to South to eat gets annoying. But West is very nice and great location.
West Quad is a big dorm, newly renovated, pretty social (relatively close compared to Hill and North Campus dorms to frats and the Big House), the rooms in my experience are a pretty good size, and is right across from South Quad (which is is where the closest dining hall is, and the best dining hall on campus). The drawback for this is you need to go outside to get to the SQuad dining hall. The other drawback I can think of is that it isn’t really close to a on-campus gym (the IM building is somewhat of a walk, but it is newly renovated and relatively nice). Other than that - solid dorm.
Thanks for the input everyone! He’s a pretty friendly kid, so as long as there are a decent amount of Freshmen in West Quad, he’ll be just fine. I know he’s psyched about the central location!!
How is rumsey house in west quad?
