West Quad

I'm a current freshman and really want to live in West Quad next year. I've heard some houses have bigger rooms than others. Is this true? Which ones?
If I'm not wrong, you get to personally choose which room you want during sign up for returning students?

Yes, room size definitely varies.

In terms of double rooms, I haven't seen West Quad, but I would assume the rooms are just average-sized, similar in dimensions to South Quad doubles? I know some South Quad doubles have sinks in the rooms, but I don't know if the same goes for West Quad. I think, regardless of size, West Quad would be your best choice, in terms of location as well as the amount of upperclassmen like yourself that mostly occupy WQ.

The biggest rooms I've actually seen have been on North Campus. The Baits houses have decent sized rooms, many with semi-private bathrooms. By far the best rooms on campus would have to be in Cambridge House in West Quad. It's separate dorming from West Quad but the two share the WQ cafeteria. Cambridge is for upperclassmen only and there are many "suite"-sized single, double, and triple rooms with completely private bathrooms. If you're willing to pay extra for housing, definitely check out Cambridge.

Fletcher also has large triple rooms with plenty of living space, and the cost for living in a triple in Fletcher is less than the average campus housing cost.

And check the housing.umich.edu for virtual room tours.

Thanks!

Does anyone know specifically which houses in West Quad have the biggest rooms? I hope to get a single.

haha what's so great about West Quad? I always hear freshman saying they wanna live there. Isn't it all just dorms?

CCRunner, I live in Bursley now so that should put things into perspective hehe.

hah yeah I can see how that would be considered a step up

West Quad has a great location, and decently larger rooms, but the Hill dorms have much better people. Make sure you don't like in Rumsey, it's shut off from the rest of WQ. Also try to live on a lower level floor- WQ has no elevators.
