Swedish guy taking my 3rd year in engineering in the US!
Just noticed that my school recently got to an agreement with NDSU. So give me pros and cons for each school! Preferably about everything such as school, school life, students, international students, housing, professors etc. Anything you can come up with!
NDSU is a great mid size school with tons of community support and school spirit. I don’t know anything about campus life, but we have nieces and nephews who have gone there and really enjoyed the campus and the school itself. It will, of course, be very cold…but I’m thinking that won’t bother you! Good luck and enjoy your time there.
Admittedly knowing NOTHING about either school, my instinct would be to focus on West Virginia simply because it’s closer to interesting places – Philadelphia, New York, the eastern seaboard – much of it accessible with public transportation (which barely exists in North Dakota.)
Would you be going for an exchange semester or year abroad, or for a dual degree?
For an exchange semester, WVU would be better.
For a dual degree, SDSU would be better.
Are those your only two choices?
NDSU is about 4 hours by car from Minneapolis/St Paul, Minnesota, and about 3 hours by car from Winnipeg, Canada.
WVU is about 4 hours by car from Washington, DC.
I’ve lived in both areas, and each of them have their own charms. The weather is a bit worse in North Dakota than it is in the mountains of West Virginia.
If you want to be able to visit NY, Philly, DC, etc. fairly easily, then WVU is probably the better choice. However if you figure that you can do that touring during a long school break, or at the end of your studies, NDSU is a fine choice too.
Jesus…
Again this “post comment” button didn’t go off…
Oh and it is also just for one semester, because I’m currently “doubling” two educations here in Sweden, so getting two bachelors on the second term.
The thing is i really like american culture, and even though I’m from Sweden, my parents are from Chinese descent, which may cause it to be more “boring” to be in Singapore, because of the similar culture.
And about North Dakota State University, it isn’t as appealing as WVU. The website looks a bit “old” and dull, and can’t find so much info about that university.
Which semester would you be here? Fall at NDSU could be a lot of fun, and you would leave before the weather gets very bad. Spring semester would start out bitterly cold and windy, and would finally be warming up just when you would be getting ready to leave. If you are coming for the spring semester, I’d vote for WVU.
Don’t worry about the look of the websites, worry about the content. Which courses would you be able to take at NDSU and at WVU?
Honestly – if I had to choose from your list, I’d skip the U.S. I’d pick Sydney, Hong Kong or Singapore. MUCH more interesting than either of your U.S. options. Sorry, just my opinion.
WVU is ABSOLUTELY the best choice of the two US schools. I’ve no idea why “someone” would try to convince you otherwise! WVU is only 50 short miles from Pittsburgh metro and only 70 miles from the international airport there. WVU has shuttles to and from the airport. We also have megabus service to DC and TRAIN service to the eastern seaboard via nearby PA stations. ND is truly remote - don’t bother. Plus, WVU is a Carnegie HIGH RESEARCH University that most recently exposed VW for diesel cheating - a worldwide story! WVU doesn’t get as much attention as insiders like me know about the school. People from WV typically aren’t braggarts. But I was from another southern state,(NC), where people love to boast, lol. And I graduated from WVU.
