<p>The Westboro Baptist Church will be picketing in the Harvard area in the very near future: once to picket the students and staff of the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School on March
13th (11:10am - 11:45am), another to picket at Harvard on
March 20th (11:15am - 12:00pm, 12 Quincy Street).</p>
<p>They will shout things like "God Hates Fags", "God Hates America" and
"Thank God For AIDS" at passers-by, children and adults alike.</p>
<p>For those not familiar with this group, they're perhaps most
well-known for picketing the funerals of American soldiers, claiming
that God has killed them because America tolerates homosexuality.</p>

Supposedly there will also be a bunch of people gathering together for a counterprotest. If anyone feels like joining the counterprotest or would like to see the WBC up-close, feel free to come. I think I might check it out or join the counterprotest if I'm in the area =P</p>
<p>I also figured they should be protesting MIT first since MIT is the more hedonistic one...</p>

<p>The best thing i've heard is people who raise money based on the number of minutes the protestors are there. So people pledge 10 cents per minute or something. Then give the money to AIDS research in WBC's name and list their address. They get a complimentary thank you post card! A local highschool raised 13k that way. People don't like them very much...</p>

<p>well, I have connections with the school and their students and here is the latest news from them on the upcoming protest: </p>
<p>The counterprotest will be at Joan Lorenz Park. This is at the corner of Ellery and Broadway.</p>
<p>Also, the school is doing some activities to promote their own diversity and stuff, except with the emphasis on themselves instead of the WBC, since the idea is to not focus on the hate but the love/tolerance. Take advantage of the opportunity to discuss this, but the focus shouldn't even be given for a split second to WBC. This is all about accepting each other~ <3 etc. hehe. However, there will be the city policy to create "a buffer zone" because the school wants to continue on the normal school life, and not let the hate group disrupt the student life in any way. </p>

<p>I'd love to counterprotest but I'm afraid that getting arrested for GBH might hurt my college application. Well, that and the Atlantic ocean is annoyingly vast and in my way.</p>
<p>I just wish that any kind of counter protest would actually have some kind of effect on these people. They're so full of hate it actually quite upsets me. It upsets me that any child is raised in a specific religion, but it really makes me angry that the children in the WBC are being taught this hatred. That's no way to live your life :(</p>
