Western Michigan University Info Please...

Sorry this was part of my old thread but I think it got lost amid all the traffic...

I was wondering if anyone's heard anything about this school? Any aspects of it would be helpful..I am looking to study Aviation program there, I haven't had a very positive experience so far with North Dakota (kind of an odd application process).

Anyways, any info on the school or the surrounding city (Kalamazoo, MI) would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!!!

This according to 15 YO son who went to an aviation camp there two summers ago and was given the "sales pitch": Great simulator can get licensed on just using that, large fleet of Cessnas and Cirruses. Paintball very nearby (Whole in the Wall, Bangor, MI).

This according to daughter who just completed a semester of dual enrollment there: A handful of restaurants within walking distance of campus: pizza, Jimmy John's. Not much available on campus in the way of snacks/food--mostly vending machines. Can't speak to dining commons/cafeterias. (Most classes (if not all?) would take place in the airport facilities, so not sure how much campus matters.) Div. I football and, I think, hockey. Kalamazoo/Portage has an ample supply of retail establishments accessible by bus: theater, mall, Target. Miller Auditorium on campus is a beautiful facility that hosts a continuous stream of Broadway shows. Commuter parking is very limited on campus. WMU hosts a Medieval history conference every year.

This is (obviously) by no means comprehensive--just a collection of factoids. Hope it helped.

Bump!

Thanks for the info Schmoomcgoo, very insightful and appreciated!!

A guy from my school turned down princeton and harvard to go there, so it couldn't be too bad. Of course, he's also a football star.
