I live in Michigan and am just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this school? I have never been in kalamazoo. I want to study engineering of some sort. What is the campus like?

sorry the sub forum is empty

It's a pretty nice place. Smaller and less overwhelming than a place like Michigan State, but it's still quite large. It seems to be the best and most-respected of the so-called "directional" colleges in Michigan (Central, Eastern, Western, Northern). The city of Kalamazoo is pretty nice, too. It would be a decent choice if you don't want all the save-the-world drama that goes with attending U of Mich, if MSU is too big, or if you just want to stay on the Western side of the state.

I have heard everything from "the campus is trashy" to "it is beautiful"

what does the campus look like and what is the atmosphere?

I have a 31 ACT score and a 3.8 weighted gpa. I go to a private preparatory school that was ranked the in best 100 catholic USA schools like 2 years ago.

would I be able to get a scholarship?

You probably would be able to get some sort of scholarship due to that 31 ACT. You might want to consider Kalamazoo College and Grand Valley State University if you don't like UMich or MSU but want to stay instate

GVSU would be my choice after UMich and MSU instate.

It's certainly not "trashy." It's kind of hilly, and there are a lot of large buildings that are sort of yellowish brick or limestone. The architecture is not going to give you goosebumps, but it's in no way ugly.

I am leaning toward computer engineering, and I don't think GVSU offers computer engineering. Am I correct?

also what does everyone think about oakland university?

sorry I cannot edit my post

Michigan > MSU > GVSU > Kalamazoo > Western Michigan
(in order of academic strength)

And OU, to be honest, is poor academically compared to some of the schools you could get into with your stats. I wouldn't suggest going there

all right that is pretty much what I figured thanks

Are you a senior, if so where did you apply?

zkevin-- I'm not sure what you meant by academic strength, but in no way would I classify GVSU ahead of Kalamazoo College, both in admitted freshman stats nor academic rigor. GVSU has more of a professional training focus rather than K College's liberal arts focus...two very different schools. I would say GV is on par with the directional schools. The OP's stats are far beyond what is required for general admission. An invitation to the Honors College and significant scholarship $$ likely will result. OP...you also should consider that there's a fair amount of commuter students at schools like GVSU and OU. BTW...GVSU, WMU, and OU all offer undergraduate computer engineering.

thanks for the help so far, it is much appreciated
