Western New England College in Springfield, MA? ...

Does anyone know anything about this school? We received a mailing and it looks interesting but I've never heard of it and am trying to avoid a commuter college. Student is URM, interested in engineering and may need some accommodations (extra time, maybe class notes). Also, what is Springfield, Mass like? We've always lived near big cities.

I live right next to Springfield and although the towns around it are nice and pretty rural, Springfield is frankly pretty scary. If you’re used to big cities I guess its not that bad but there are some really dangerous areas. WNEC has a good reputation and its in a decent area, so I would definitely come check it out if you have the chance. Six Flags New England and the Basketball Hall of Fame are both only 10 minutes away so its worth a trip.

Son is also engineering major. He is a freshman now. Someone had recommended we look at WNE. Online it looks great. Another friend who went up to see it said not to waste out time. I trust her judgmental!!

We have been to Springfield many times growing up (relatives lived there) and then 4 or so years back, just as a stop off point to stay at a hotel. Yikes!!! Not a great town. Look elsewhere.

Crazed - you said your son is an engineering freshman now…where is he? My DD has been accepted at WNEC for fall 2010 also for engineering. She will be visiting next Friday to shadow a student. Please let me know your thoughts! I’m all ears as we move into the final decision making phase.

THX.

We looked at this school with our older child. It was “okay”. The campus was nice enough. At that time less of the campus was wireless than other campuses, but was becoming wireless. It just seemed to be cutting some costs that I did not care for, but I would still have sent my son there had it not been for the area. I just did not care for the area, and he never even applied.

carlsonnr- I’ll PM you.

Haven’t checked on here recently and just found your post.
