My son went to the open house at Western New England. We liked it, but never heard of it before. Does any one know if it's a good school? He's also looking at Holy Cross, Wheaton, Babson, Stone Hill, and a few others.

Western New England is locally well known. It is a fine school, but not highly competitive. It has a good business program. We know a number of grads who found jobs in the Hartford/Springfield area, as well as local internships while in college.

I would guess that compared to the others on your son’s list, it would be the least competitve for admissions.

But hey…if he liked it, that matters a lot!

I think the most famous person attending is the girl from NJ who sued her parents last year to require they pay for her education, car, room and board while still in high school last year when she went to live with a friend’s family.

All I can say is that I have lived in New England most of my life, and I’ve never heard of it.

It’s quite a few notches down from the other schools he’s considering, but I guess it’d make a good safety for him then, especially if the net price calculators indicate it’s within budget.
