western washington university

I visited western washington university last weekend. I got a good sense of the school and the program I am interested in. What i don't have a sense of is the social aspect of the school - is it a party school or more studoius? I'm into snowboarding - is that a popular activity? How does this school compare to the other public washington schools?

We're sorta in the same boat. (although we haven't visited yet). A colleague of my husband said it was a bit of a party school, but I think that is an exaggeration. Kids are not as studious as at u.w., but more so than the other WA state schools. I think they are laid back and fairly social. Many people prefer it over u.w. because of the smaller size. I think it is up-and-coming. it was on some list for schools that give personal attention to the student. We'll probably go to the accepted student day and give it a look. What were your impressions? If you had to categorize (oh my!) the students, how would you describe them? (eg preppy, hippy, alternative, etc)

unfortunately we went on a tour on Saturay at 11am and hardly anyone was out. We saw a few very studious looking types. Our tour guides were 2 very likeable guys - i would say slightly on the preppy side.

when is the accepted student day?

Yes, I have heard that sat. mornings are not the best time to get the true flavor of the campus. Accepted student day is Apr. 9th. It is not a free affair, and you have to be registered and pay per person($25?). I haven't asked my daughter if she wants to go yet, but i think it is a way of seeing what types of kids will be attending.
