Westminster, Allegheny and College of Wooster

These schools are not far apart (western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio). Are these colleges similar? Is one far above the others? Opinions please.

I live outside of Pittsburgh and I don't know much about these schools, but I can tell that Allegheny is PERCEIVED to be the best of those three in my area.

I visited both Westminster and Wooster last fall and just found them to be completely different schools. I remember Westminster having many more education and science majors. It was much smaller than Wooster and felt much more rural. I think Wooster is more widely recognized but I don't know much about Allegheny.

Don't know much about the other two but D loved Allegheny. Isn't going because of location (too much cold and snow) and cost, even with their largest scholarship. We were all impressed with everything else about the school, and she'd have done very well in their science programs.

I went to westminster and it is a great school. Wooster and Allegheny are real good too. I'd go to the one that felt best to you when you visit. Can't go wrong with any of them.

Are there even any parents/students looking at this site any more?

I have a daughter who has applied to Westminster. We have not visited the school
yet. I wanted to get some opinions about the academic /social climate of the college.

My daughter also applied to Washington and Jefferson college, where she recently
attended scholars weekend. She has received nice scholarships from both colleges.

Any thoughts on either of these colleges?

I went to Westminster many years ago & loved it. I went to a small rural hgih school so the size & location didn’t bother me a bit. The friendliness of the students, professors really impressed me. I din’t know a soul coming in and no difficulties at all socailly or academically (it was demanding but not overly so). Fraternities were the main social functions back then (don’t know if anything has changed). I majored in psych & had no difficulty getting into grad school. Many of my classmates went on to gain more noteriety (spokesman for the Dallas Cowboys, Model, movie actor, president of the national little league, congressman) than one would think from such a small college!
