Westminster,loomis,Taft,Canterbury,Kent

I don`t hear a lot about these school. Although they are not included in the HADES/GLADCHEMMS group, we should also review them. Pls give me info on these schools.

Campus
academics
sports
nice students

id say although taft isnt in HADES or whatever, it is near that top tier. It has a beautiful campus with good academics and friendly students, and Its typically known as a powerhouse in sports as well. As for the other schools id say they’re mid tier at most.

kind of wondering what keeps Westminster out of range to Taft. They seem equal to me. Is there something I`m missing?

Loomis—loved it. We had the best tour guide out of all the schools we visited, including DA, PEA, MPS, Cushing, etc. The school was beautiful and the students were the best. Great english/writing program. Great student support.

It was the only bs that did not select my d. She was crushed for it was her second choice. I thank them in the end because it was not the best fit for my d, and I think they saw that. Would it have worked for her—sure but our first choice for her was the best fit, Deerfield.

I think Loomis is more of a lower tier one, high tier two school. I don’t think Taft is in the group or at least also consider Northfield Mount Herman.

Taft is harder to get into than Westminster. Both great schools but Taft just is known to be in a higher tier.

My daughter chose Taft and I couldn’t be happier with her decision. The academics were strong, as was the sports focus - but non-jocks can opt for community service. But what sold the school was it’s sense of community. The faculty and students weren’t “stiff” or “formal” during our visit. We could feel the sense of camaraderie from the moment we stepped through the door and my daughter was treated as if she were already one of the family. My husband (also an adcom) took her back for revisit day and kept texting “WOW” throughout the day as he sat in on classes.

As for stats - they’ve got a strong lineup of AP classes, are financially stable, and have support systems for students to keep them on track.

It’s a strong school without the pressure cooker feel that other schools give off.

Just out of curiosiity, ExieMITAlum, did you graduate from both Exeter and MIT? hahah.

I will be attending Kent as a freshman this year and you are right, there aren’t much info about those schools that you listed. I might not know as much as a current student at Kent but I’ll tell you what I know.
Campus: Kent actually has a very beautiful campus. Its around 1200 acres I think and is by the Housatonic River and the Appalachian trail. But the special thing about Kent is the Kent town which is like 5 minutes away. Its as if the school has its own little town and it’s really pretty. The students are allowed to go out to the town anytime without checking out. There are a couple restaurants, a chocolate shop, a toy store , 2 or 3 book stores and a couple boutiques and is a great place for students to go to have lunch or get some ice cream.

Academics: Kent’s courses are really strong and interesting. The have things like Irish Drama or Meteorology and a really good Pre-Engineering program. I really liked the fact that you have a lot of freedom when choosing your courses.

Sports: I don’t have too much info about that but i know Kent has a GREAT football and crew team. They both went to England this year.

As for the people and atmosphere, that’s what I truly fell in love with Kent. It’s like a family atmosphere there and it’s the perfect combination of work hard and stress free. During my visits, I saw that everyone knows each other and the faculty is amazing.

I guess that’s enough but if u have any questions about Kent, I would be glad to answer. :)

hey purplelover im going to kent next year too!

oo well hellooooo thereeeee!!! :D

hello!! : )

how was your experience at kent? are there “normal” grounded kids there?

Hi grace23! My experience at Kent was amazing. I graduated this past June, but I still keep in close contact with my friends. I really enjoyed my time there and have even gone back to visit. Yes, there are many normal grounded kids there. The school is very diverse and everyone is very accepting. Both the students and faculty are great. If you have more questions, feel free to ask or even to PM me! I love talking about my experience at Kent.

Oh, wow! Of these four schools, I’m applying to three!
I loved all of them when I visited, truthfully!
