D1 has already been accepted to Game Art and Production (last year--she deferred admission for a year), and for some reason just got her invitation for Pennoni Honors College. It doesn't seem like many of the courses on her curriculum have honors sections, so it would involve doing extra work in some courses. Can anyone already at Drexel comment on what it's like doing Pennoni while at Westphal COMAD?

Hi! I’m double majoring in Business and Entertainment and Arts Management and am in Pennoni. When you “honors option” a class, it usually means you will be doing some sort of extra project to earn your honors credit, but it really depends on the professor; one of my professors said we can do our final project alone rather than in a group (there are only two people in my group, so it wouldn’t be a huge difference). However, another way to earn credit is through the specific honors courses that are offered each term. Looking at the plan of study for Game Art and Production, there is definitely room to take at least one of these classes each term. As far as I know, many of them aren’t a huge workload and cover interesting subject areas, such as ballroom dancing or the apocalypse.

Thanks so much. Can you point me to where those honors classes are listed? When I look at the plan of study would these substitute for one of these classes or be in addition? (I guess the real question is how many credits do most people take every quarter?)

The honors courses change from term to term, so you can never really be sure what will be offered. This link has a listing of all the courses that have been offered per quarter since winter 2011.
Depending on the class and her adviser, some of these classes may be able to count as a certain elective, such as English or History. There are also a certain number of free electives already worked into the plan of study that could be used for honors classes. Also, if she has AP credit, she would be able to take an honors class or two in place of the classes she got credit for.

(I’m not sure exactly how many credits most people take, but I would guess 16-18. The maximum amount is twenty, which is definitely doable.)

Thanks so much for the info–I’ll pass it along to D2.

No problem!
