WHAP DBQ Thesis help?

Hey, guys. So my WHAP teacher hasn’t given my class enough practice on the essays so I barely understand how to write a DBQ. I grouped and wrote an outline for a practice DBQ found in the Princeton Review (pgs. 76-79). Any help/commentary/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Prompt: Given the documents below, compare and contrast the preambles of several modern constitutions. What other additional document(s) would help give a fuller picture of how the constitutions of these countries compare to the constitutions of other countries?

Thesis: A common trend in world history is that a state’s government is often based upon its prior history and culture, and this can most definitely be seen in a country’s constitution. Often when a state is born in the aftermath of a war, it emphasizes the ideals of peace. When a country is plagued by ethnic genocide or a rigid and stratified social structure, the country sees itself promoting equality. Likewise, when a country’s culture shows a history of liberty, it is reflected into the government. When a country is split and thoroughly divided, the country stands up to promote unity.

Groups: (All Docs are preambles to constitutions)
1- Japan & Germany
2- India & Congo
3- India & France
4- Vietnam & Congo

PoV1: France (Preamble mentions “Rights of Man” and Frech Revolution-tie in on previous culture affecting it)
PoV2: Congo (Tie in to previous ethnic divisions in the country affecting the constitution)

I realize I didn’t do a good job “Comparing and contrasting” so could I do something with the groupings I made to somehow make it work?
Also, if you have the PR book and did this, what did u do?

Bump, really need the help, i have no idea if im doing this right or completly wrong

I think your thesis should be clearer and argumentative. It should be 1-2 sentences such as, "Preambles from the countries , , and were similar in ____ and differed in _;also, preambles from _, _, and had similarities in ____ and differences in . The similarities and differences shouldn’t be just anything random you find similar, they need to be grouped according to a set of themes. My teacher taught us SPICE. Social, Political, Interaction, Cultural, and Economic. You have to find similarities and differences using any of these themes. For example: _, , and were similar in the political structures they supported. Or: _, _, and were different in the attitudes they had to (social class such as women, slaves, etc.) The key thing here that I was learned is that each grouping/body paragraph should have both similarities and differences, on a topic based on the themes I told you about. Does that make any sense? Use this chart to get a general idea of the themes. <a href=“Redirect Notice”>Redirect Notice;

Thanks Man! This made it a good bit clearer.

Haha I’m a girl but no problem!
