Wharton 2011

Who is think about applying to Wharton. I want to start an official list.

Does the adcom make their selections mostly on stats for wharton? It seems like it from the admissions statistics.

What's the lowest sats you have ever heard at wharton?

I visited UPenn today and the woman at the information session stated that even though standardized tests are a factor in the admissions process, that it si the only factor. She went on to say that you should have taken advantage of the opportuniites that have been presented to you througthout your lifetime. Thus if you only have taken one AP liek me, but it is not your fault, but rather the way that the school curriculum is set up, that is alright because UPenn sees that you took advantage of all the advantages that were in front of you. But that does nto give anyone an excuse just not to take an APs. I am tkaing 5 my senior year since my school is just set up that way. Penn would see that and understand. So just because you might have had a low or high SAT score when you got into Wharton, your SAT might not have been the factor that actually got you in. She stated that there was no magic formula for admisisons bceause it all changes year to year and thus there is no answer to that question. Just advice is given that you should get the highest possibile SAT scores. As that can only help you and not hurt you.

theworld8905: What is your opinion of the campus?

I really liked the campus. I especially liked the combination of old buildings and the new buildings, for some reason it reminded me of Loindon. tt is magnificient, if that is even a strong enough word.

The Quad is the most stunning part of the campus by far

It all is stunning in my opinion.

More importantly its a two hour ride to NYC. 20 bucks round trip from Philly to NYC making weekend trips all the more frequent (Easy access to NYC is important to me).

Maharas:

Wharton is a very good school, therefore would like to know some information. Do you know many current students who are attending Wharton? Do they have a business where they make tons of money without getting any help from parents? I know couple of prep school kids who have business but their parents are already well placed in Investment banking. So we are looking for self starters numbers. Thanks :)

They published some numbers that included the number of students going into the class of 09 (entire university) with their own businesses. It was like 20 or so. Wharton's class is around 500, I believe.

do they have stats just with wharton kids?

I think it's safe to assume that most of them ARE whartonites

A handful of students have businesses (as a poster above noted...it was something like 25-30 I believe....although don't quote me on that). People going into Wharton aren't gods and most don't have a five figure/month generating business. Don't worry if you don't have a business, just focus on the other great stuff you are involved in (leadership for example).

I'll be applying to Wharton this fall.
