Wharton- ACT vs. SAT

I'm aiming for Wharton next year (I'm a junior)...I got an okay ACT score on my first try in February (33), and I'm going to take the SAT this weekend. After a few practice runs at home, I'm not expecting my SAT score to be that great (<1400, 201 on PSAT).

I know there's more to admissions that the standardized test, but how does Penn rank ACT test takers and SAT test takers? If both tests are submitted, is only the higher one used for admissions?

Thanks...

I would think the higher one would be taken, but don't assume you'll do so poorly on the sat just b/c of your 201 psat...I got a 195 and i wound up eventually getting a 1480/2200. I doubt this happens that often, but wait till you get your sats before you start worrying!

please do not refer to 33 as "okay". many people would kill for that score. it is amazing for your first time so just take it again and you can easily raise it by a point or two and you would have a great score to submit.

one is not ranked over another, and i'm pretty sure the higher one is used (they convert back and forth)

I didn't mean it like that....I wanted to downplay it because the score is good but still not excellent for Penn standards.

Sorry if it came off wrong...

Yay ACT! The 33's better than pretty much SAT score you'll get.

I'd say try to get 34+ if possible. 33 is pretty good. if you get 34+, then you won't be rejected because of your score.

lol i got in with a 31. 31 by thier materials is thier average.my sat's were an even 2000 so i shunned them in my app

I was actually in almost the same situation as you. I got a 33 my first time, and I had told myself that if I got a 34 or higher I wouldn't take it again. I took it again and got a 33 (with a totally different distrubution of subscores) and just left it, and I got into wharton ed. I know people with much lower who did too, penn doesn't seem to have a cutoff accept/reject score, and if it does a 33 certainly isn't it. They don't view SATs and ACTs any differently, too the best of my knowledge.

Good to know...

jrm...I've been thinking of the same thing (might retake in June for a 34+). If it doesn't go up, I'm planning to do what you did and just let it go. My SAT needs a bit more work anyway...

I'm asian and I got into Wharton with a 32 on my ACT and a 2150 on the SAT....yeah.

The Wharton admissions reps will be honest, the only section they REALLY care about is Math. Sure, you should do fairly well on the Englishes too, but make sure you have high math scores. Even though I had low overall SAT/ACT scores, I got a 760 on SAT 1 Math, a 35 on ACT Math, and a 790 on Math 2c. And I know a ton of Penn officials who will tell you the same thing: that Wharton puts - by far- the most attention toward your math scores.

33 is fine.

I think you don't have to take the SAT Subject Tests if you took the ACT (at least, i used to be like that). However, I would still take them and send them to Penn (if possible, MIIC and a foreign language coz proficiency in a foreign language is a graduation requirement)

It's weird but I scored higher on ACT Englishes than ACT math (30) but higher on SAT Math (770) than SAT Crit Reading.

I'm planning to take math iic, physics, and us history SAT IIs in June. I wish I knew enough to take a language...maybe I can make the language with listening exam in the fall. Since I would think that the higher scores are used for admissions, I want to submit all my scores anyway...

It's really helpful to know how it turned out for others just looking at scores. Thanks for your help!

I agree, don't worry about the 201 PSAT...my PSATs were around there and I ended up getting a 2340 so it's anybody's guess

i got a 31 on my act, but only a 1920 on my sat.
will competitive schools not accept me because of the lower sat score? i have to send them because of SAT II requirements so wat should i do?
