Wharton admission corruption

5 from the same school (Pingry) got in Wharton through ED. Were there no better applicants in NJ? Or were there corruptions?

Maybe not corruptions??? Pingry is an extremely well respected private school and could possibly have many Penn/Wharton legacies with very deep pockets that are well connected both in educational and corporate circles....that being said, one would have to know the statistics for the other top privates in NJ to assess what the situation is/was...My educated guess would be that other private schools such as Newark Academy, etc. would have similar results......(and even some top publics)....

You may be right. But 5 is about close to the number the whole state would get and they are all from the one school and all got in during ED. It is odd.

the whole state?

so you're saying that of the 262 members of the class of 2011 that come from nj, no more than 5 could be ed wharton? when almost half get in ed?

please note that only 2 states send more students to penn, per year, than nj - and those are ny / pa (283 / 406)

Penn Admissions: Incoming Class Profile

Half of Penn's class is admitted ED. I would assume at least 1/3 of the students from Jersey are admitted ED (if not more). That puts it at close to 90 from Jersey, if not more for Penn as a whole. 5 from one high school ED is probably just fine. It also probably means that not a whole lot get in RD.

Not all states are created equal. New Jersey's kind of a big deal.

One to two people usually go to Wharton from my school (3-5 go to Penn overall), and we're just one of MANY New Jersey public schools with high stats and strong matriculation rates at top colleges. It doesn't seem unreasonable for private schools (well, the few good private schools that we have, but Pingry is included) to have slightly more graduates at schools like Penn since they're more likely to have legacy connections and not care about financial aid.
