Hi, I'm a rising junior & an avid fan of UPENN. (mostly because of the "study hard & party hard" theme of the school :P )

I want to go into IBanking. But I thought economics major with finance double major will be such a boost in this field.

Is it possible that I do Wharton Finance and CAS Econ double major? Is it regarded as a dual degree? Then how does this work? (regarding requirements and so on)

can someone tell me the acceptance rate for Wharton ED (projected, since UPENN doesn't officially announce it) and the applicant pool for that?

plus how hard is it for a CAS econ major to transfer to Wharton or apply for a dual degree with Wharton? (how hard is it to get a 3.8 or higher @ UPENN CAS?)

Plus I heard a CAS econ major can minor in a Wharton major without much paperwork (I mean how you know if u want a dual degree from Wharton as a CAS student, u need that 3.8 or higher cut, 2 essay questions, interview… but I heard if u just want to minor in a Wharton major, then there is no requirement for that. is it true??)

Wharton doesn’t have majors, they have concentrations which require less courses than majors. You cannot major or minor in a Wharton concentration if you are in CAS, what they do have is interschool minors which have courses in the college and in Wharton like legal studies and history for example.

I don’t think you understand, Wharton grants an Econ degree and You can get a concentration in finance from Wharton. So, there is no need to dual major.

I thought wharton was a business school and economics major was part of CAS?

I am confused :/

What I want is an Economics major with finance (either major, “concentration,” minor, etc.) and also with lots of math back ground. I want to go into i banking (Credit Suisse, BNP Paribas, Morgan Stanley, Macquarie…)

The degree you get from Wharton is an Econ degree. CAS also offers an Econ degree, but obviously the two are different. If you want finance, then do Wharton with a concentration in finance. That will give you an Econ degree with finance.

Only THE NAME of the Wharton undergraduate degree is “B.S. in Economics.” It is NOT, in fact, an economics degree as that term is usually used. It’s just the traditional name of the Wharton undergrad degree going back over a century. But it is NOT actually an economics degree as currently defined.

An undergraduate economics degree is a BA with a major in economics which–at Penn, at least–requires 10 courses in economics. Very few, if any, Wharton undergrads take anywhere near that number of economics courses.

(Historical footnote: it USED to be possible to actually major in economics as a Wharton undergrad, but that hasn’t been the case for many years now).

Wharton’s degree is an “economics” degree technically, but it does not actually teach what modern definition of economics teaches, but more finance and business material.

So if I want the actual economics, can I still get a dual degree from CAS Econ (the actual economics) and Wharton “Economics” with finance concentration?

I want

Math + Econ + Finance (then parties + fun + friends…) from PENN :)

^ Yes, that can be done. Theoretically, you can pursue dual degrees from Wharton and the College with any major the College offers (Anthropology, English, Music, Physics, etc.), so certainly you could pursue dual degrees with an Economics major in the College.

And incidentally, no one at Penn talks about a Wharton “economics” degree or program (even in quotes :)). It’s just a word on your diploma when you graduate (and on your resume when you list your degree(s)).
