You’ll probably have to take MGMT100 either way, but you can switch into CAS after freshman year. If you’re absolutely sure you want to switch, talk to an adviser to help set up a more appropriate schedule. But you’ll have to apply for a transfer before May, I believe. You’ll be able to switch from Wharton to CAS if you manage to land a 3.4 GPA or better in your first year, I believe it is.

Let me also recommend International Relations as a good, broad, liberal arts/social sciences kind of major at Penn’s CAS. It carries more respect (one of the few majors that REQUIRES a thesis, honors or not). Alumni do very well.

I know several students who could NOT transfer out of Wharton after freshman year because they did not have high enough GPA. I think you need a 3.0.

This is a silly question to ask on CC. Call the admissions office. The answer will be yes, no, maybe, or depending.

My guess – and it’s purely a guess – is that if you move quickly enough the answer may well be depending . . . on your reasons. So have a couple of paragraphs written and ready to go explaining why you have changed your mind. Well-written, cogent paragraphs.

i’m basically reevaluating my goals of becoming a soulless money-chasing ibanker on wall street. and i’m considering the crazy notion that life isn’t all about the pursuit of profit.

i will call the admissions office tomorrow.

WAIIIIIT!!! No one said you have to become an Ibanker. Why not just get the finance skills from Wharton and work for a non-profit ?? Or go to Wharton then Law School? Or double major in the college? At Penn the opportunities really are endless. Think VERY carefully about this. Talk to some Penn ALUMNI if possible. Talk to someone in the finance industry as well, or at least talk to someone in the non-profit world. This decision may be irreversible. CAS is superb obviously, but don’t jump ship so hastily particularly when you have not even stepped foot on campus.
