Make sure to emphasize the language learning and also make sure they understand you actually are good at each language and its not just some sort of filler thing. Take SAT IIs in each language to prove that (that will help a lot). Also, your SAT scores didn’t show up.

I just didn’t want to report them. they’re not good. my act is better.
and yeah i can see that. I can definently take the SAT 2s in French and Spanish. Thanks! Anyone else?

Well, I’m assuming you’re applying next year. You have many many times to retake the SAT. If you’re wealthy this will be easy, if you’re not, try to get a fee waiver. If you’re somewhere in the middle, it’s up to you if you’re willing to retake it several times, but I strongly suggest retaking it at least once. The new score reporting options at collegeboard (favoring those who give them more money essentially) let you choose which scores you report, so you can take it, say, 5 times and only report the one where you got 700+ on all sections. I would say if you wanna go the retaking till you get a good score route, don’t take it more than 3 or 4 times (but its up to you).

also, I noticed you took the mandarin chinese class. are you any good at that? If so, also take the SAT II in that.

really? nothing special? It doesn’t matter that i am going to be fluent in five languages, or that I started a program helping minority students? what do they want from me?

and @ Alex, I am not sure if I will be any good. i’m takng it at the university in my town, so I won’t know if i’m good yet. I think i’ll be good at it, but not in time to take the SAT 2. Maybe I can have the teacher write a recommendation, or say something about my skillzzzz in chinese?

Hello fello Oregonian! Yay I am excited other people from Oregon want to go to Penn/Wharton…I think your chances will really depend on your SAT/ACT scores…the language thing will give you a boost, but other than being ASB, NHS, Soccer, and Tennis you don’t have too many strong ECs. Of course, taking classes at U of O are always a plus. What other colleges are you looking into? any good safety schools (i am assuming you don’t want to go to U of O since you kinda already go there…maybe OSU???)?

hispanic with that many languages and AP’s. More than a strong shot. Don’t let anyone get you down about your scores. I got into Wharton’s honors program (JWS) with a 33.

Really? That’s awesome! Congrats!!
And thank you. i don’t think i’ll be able to get a 33 on my ACT, i dunno. i’ve never been good at standardized testing. But thank you for you comment!
Any other comments are gladly welcomed!

I second what nj_azn said, helping/tutoring hispanics is good but not enough at this level. However, you are a URM so that helps your chances significantly.

I somehow doubt you are fluent in 5 languages just from taking a few classes at the University of Oregon, especially not in a language like Chinese. If you think you are though, you will need to take an SAT II to impress colleges.

I wouldn’t say fluent, but i wouldn’t say i’m a scrub either. i mean french and spanish i’m for sure fluent at. Japanese is making my way and chinese i’ll have to work at, but still. And i do see your point AstonMartin, and i will take SAT 2s. Thanks.
