Hey guys.
Since there’s a thread for SEAS accepted applicants, i was wondering why there isn’t a similar one for the wharton class of 2010!

This thread is dedicated to all of you out there who have already been accepted to wharton/ been deferred by wharton/ been rejected but still harbours deep interests in wharton/ current wharton students/ RD Wharton Applicants/ anyone else interested in knowing more about wharton.

Anyway, this IS the place to discuss about life in wharton, classes, clubs, academic courses, profs, etc…

Gonna get to know of ya’ll more in Fall next year. i SERIOUSLY cant wait!!!

Anyway, a brief introduction of myself. I’m an ambitious kid from singapore who’s passionate about leadership-development. I come from a family that has deep roots in business, and thats one of the many reasons why i applied ED Wharton.

To all those people who got deferred, hope’s not lost! Keep your dreams alive!

I'm Ray, and I'm going to be studying at Wharton next year!!! I can't wait to see everyone! I'm from So-Cal, San Diego. Like Calisurf06, I am definitely going to study hard and party harder!

I wonder what the stats were for those who were accepted to Wharton early. I don't really see a lot of them popping around on the message boards or on Myspace so I'm thinking not too many peopel were accepted. Damn, we're so lucky!

I can't believe I got in with my SAT scores... Wowsers! yeah so... I can't wait to see everyone next year!

Cool to know we got 2 partiers here, cuz i'm one too!
It's gonna be fun 3-4 years!

Anyway, i got this off from princetonreview.com. Pretty interesting.

"There are distinct stereotypes for each of the four undergraduate schools" at Pennbrainy engineer, ambitious Wharton student, artsy college kid, hard-working nursealthough "generally students from all four schools interact quite smoothly." The student body includes "a surprising number of very religious people, including some staunch Christians and many Jews. There are far fewer agnostics and atheists than you would expect." Penn is known among the Ivies as the school where students unwind most enthusiastically; "Everyone at Penn is very stressed out, all the time, which is why most people have to let loose on the weekend," explains one student. Adds another, "The average Penn student is a thinker and a drinker. Everybody studies really hard all week long and lets loose on the weekends at wild parties (haha oh yeah!).

When you apply to a joint degree program - ie Huntsman - you can only select 1 default school to be considered for if you don't get in to the joint degree.

So if you want Wharton then you will only be considered for Huntsman then Wharton. You will not be considered for the College. And other than joint degree programs there is no way to apply to more than one school at Penn. You need to choose 1 of 4.

i was making that exact decision.
seriously a week before i submit my app
i was gonna apply to the college
bc it is easier to get into
but i was thinking...
why settle
the higher you shoot the better the payoff
but then again the harder you fall from rejection

most of all i realized that i couldnt see myself anyother place than wharton
being basically the LOW level of SATs and EC and whatnot
i got in
i was honestly the most surprised but def wharton.

if you get into wharton though it is possible to also major in the college in something. i know plenty of people that are not in one of the three joint degree programs who are getting degrees from the college. the wharton advisors are pretty helpful about figuring out what classes to take.

Besides the fact that we'll be split into teams of 10, do any of you whartonites know anything more about MGT 100. I'll like to know more about what exactly we'll be doing.

in mgmt 100 each team picks a community service type project that is offered to their class. They rank the projects in order of which one they would most prefer and so on. Then the Professor gives out the projects and tries to match teams up with their top choice. When I took mgmt 100 it just so happened that the first choice of every team was different. There are about four teams per class. During class you discuss management and leadership. Through out the course there are different assignments such as a memo and a presentation that relates one of the issues learned from managment to your team dynamic. You also have a one hour recitation during the week with just your team and TA (teacher assistant). This is a more personal environment where you work on strategy to implement your idea and such. I hope that helps. Its hard to sum up mgmt 100 in just a paragraph or so.

A few corrections, it's actually 6 teams per class (at least mine was) and TA stands for Team Advisor.

Management 100 is a huge team commitment. You'll spent a lot more time than the 4 hours of class you have a week since you actually need to get the project done.

Aside from the writing, there are three main presentations. You'll spend countless hours on these, as well. One is based on a topic you're given, one is a client presentation where you need to suggest changes to the client, and the final is the team presentation that is supposed to show how you got to where you ended at.

sorry about the number of teams, i'm not a freshman this year. i think it actually changed because of the increase in yield, but the number of teams per class should drop again for the class of 2010. and sorry for saying TA is teacher assistant...didn't know that was such an important point to correct in your first line. especially since i have friends who are ta's and on their resume it says "Teacher Assistant", but hey I'm not here to argue symantecs with you.

Okay.. if I apply to Huntsman, then I get to put Wharton as my next school.. but if I just apply to Wharton, can I put Huntsman as my next program??
Like.. I want them to consider me for Wharton first, and then if I don't get in, then Huntsman...
Does that work?
... I think the biggest problem is our insecurities with Wharton but our love for Penn.. I mean, I have such a HUGE chance of getting rejected, but I still want to go to Penn.. ya know? So I don't know if I should put down Wharton and risk it, or put down the College and get a bigger chance
