Any thoughts? Suggestions? Studying for the SAT II Math I & II at the moment...

Thanks in advance!

Average test scores, great GPA, great ECs. I think your chances are good, but you really have to raise the SAT I math score, for Wharton that is. Also, don’t bother with the MathIc test, it’s useless in the world of competitive admissions. If I were you I’d scrap it for your favorite humanity course, maybe US History? I also advise you cut out the UK schools, unless you plan on getting extremely high test scores. I would throw in a safer school than Brandeis such as good ole Rutgers. Oh and the essay topic sucks, it’s enough to get you rejected. Try to be sincere in your essay not gimmicky.

you’re in at NYU, Cornell, Berkeley, and CMU…and wow, how did you start an investment company? are your parents financial/investment professionals?

I’ve seen the SAT math scores for Wharton - most are around 780. I am really working to improve them big time. I’m a bit worried about the writing and critical reading improvement - my essay was an 11 first time, then a 9, then a 10. I keep finding mistakes in sentences that don’t exist; I’m a grammar freak who consistently imposes my personal writing style on the SAT (more of a revising than editing than actually finding grammar mistakes). I haven’t missed a mistake , but judging from the score report, I found seven mistakes that didn’t exist! Not good.

My US History class is a joke, so US history is a no-go. Could I take any subject tests after June and still have them in time for admissions?

On second thought, I took the sample question test on the CB website and I got around 12-13 right out of 15. Hmm…any thoughts?

The UK schools are just for fun :)

So you started the investment companies in 2003…when you were 11/12. Right…

i’m thinking a little “help” from mom and pop

and so will Wharton

Oxford, Cambridge

You do know that Oxford and Cambridge ONLY care about academics right? You better get that SAT to 2350+ if you wanna go there.

@llpitch…not necessarily…they would much rather see a bunch of 5’s on AP tests and 780+ on 3+ SAT II’s or even better yet…a 40+ IB predicted score. Oh…and I’m jealous of your leadership, :P.

Let me clarify:

First company (web design) was in 2003
Second & third companies were in 2007

No help from mom or pop.

Thanks to those who replied.

If you’re taking the SATs again for a fourth time, make sure that you improve alot (i’m assuming this is why you’re taking it again). I think up to 3 sittings colleges don’t care and after that they begin to question why you’re taking the SAT so many times. Also make sure to do well on the subject tests. Other than that your stats are great and I wish you luck!

I’m planing on a huge improvement in my math in particular. Will they know how many times I take it? Does four times really look bad?

Yeah they will know how many times you took the SAT, that’s how they superscore. 4 times would be pretty negligible for the Adcoms but I think anymore and they will start to get worried. I know for me, I took the SAT three times and from the first time to the second there was a good jump 1310 to 1430 but the third time i took it it only went up to 1470 (760M 710CR). The more you take it you will start to realize at some point you will start to level off, unless you are purposely putting down incorrect answers. Hope i could help

Hmm, interesting. I don’t know - my CR score went down the last time but my math went up. Since math is so important for Wharton, I think it would be best to actually study for the SAT (duh!) and do better.

Yeah that happened to me also, mostly for the writing section got 680 (highest) first sitting but only a 640 the second and a 660 the third. You will have little fluctuations but for the most part, your score won’t change much. This is of course assuming after you have taken it many many times. good luck on it

Hmm, that’s pretty interesting. I’ll have to study this time and see what happens.

Do not take the SAT I for a 4th time. It will not help and could possibly hurt you. My guidance counselors told me that taking it more than three times will cause a “diminished” effect on all your SAT scores.

And on a side note, how are you faring in AP Physics with only Precalculus? I’m not questioning whether or not you’re taking both but interested in how it’s working out.

Do you think it will be a problem? What if my top scores only came from the last three times (or two times) and the first one or two times was ignored (or unreported)?

AP Physics is awesome! It’s Physics B and not C, so calculus is not required. For the students who take calculus, they are able to integrate a lot of the calculus equations and save time. Unfortunately my school would not let me skip precalculus this year. Our school is a bit backwards - we do bio in 9th grade, physics in 10th, (normally) chemistry in 11th, and either nothing or AP bio, chem, or physics in 12th. I just decided to skip chemistry and take AP in my senior year so that I could take AP physics this year.

When you send your score report to Penn, they will be able to see all the times you took the SAT, and certain testings cannot be omitted or unreported. Basically when you send a score report, College Board will send every test that it has on record for you to the respective colleges.

Um…colleges see all your SAT’s.

lookingforwhat? wrote: “Um…colleges see all your SAT’s.”

Yes, when CollegeBoard sends out a report of your SAT scores they see every sitting for every test you’ve taken. There is no way to only send your highest scores or not to send a SAT II because you did poorly.

Everything is sent.

Is that a serious question?
