No if Wharton says no you’re done.

Lol p90x is insane.

your academics don’t scream “Wharton!” but you sound like an interesting person, so you’ll have a shot depending on how the rest of the app portrays you

Just out of curiosity what car do you drive OP?

Agree with Choklit for the most part.

However, what are your math scores? Do you think you made an 800 – or at least very close to it – on your math II? Do you think you scored an 800 on the SAT I math? Have you received all A’s in your high school math classes? Are you in the most rigorous math classes your school offers?

If the answer to all of those questions errs on the positive side, then I think you have an OK shot. You’ll probably be rejected just because it doesn’t look like you have a passion for business, but if you really focus on that in your application, I think you have a decent shot (i.e., probably deferred but possibly accepted).

brooo, why didn’t you write CEO of pawn shop down as one of your ec’s here?

Business oriented ECs:

Manager of family business (15 hrs/week; 2000-2009)
Future Business Leaders of America - Chairman

How could I convey that I indeed have a passion for business? I’m going to write the Common App short essay on my management position at the business.

People with top academics get rejected from Wharton(and HYPSM in general) because they don’t seem passionate about anything. Demonstrated passion for business is not necessary, though of course, some sort of interest in business is necessary to be a fit for the program.

Okay, new info here guys!

My dad used to be the Director of Cash Management/Treasurer at a pretty big corp. in NC. He said he could possibly get the former Chairman of the Board/Pres/CEO to write me a letter of recommendation. Also, this guy is a Wharton alumni (both undergrad and MBA) and is very successful. How do you think this will affect my application?

I have two choices: apply ED w/out the rec. OR apply RD w/ (hopefully) the rec.

if it’s a generic recommendation that doesn’t show personal connection (and based on the description, it wouldn’t)

then it does nothing to help

I’ve known the guy since I was a baby (literally). I don’t talk to him regularly, but he’s seen me at various stages in my life. We don’t have a “personal connection” but it’s not like he’s not a complete stranger. Would probably go have lunch with him if he were to do the rec.

well that’s better

but even so, if he hasn’t seen specific examples of things to write about, it may still come off as too general or distant

the only way this would have a significant effect would be if this rec says something that is uniquely positive and not already featured in your application

If the letter will not be completely generic, I’d say RD with the rec.

DEFINITELY rd with rec itll help the business aspect for wharton.
