Hooks:
I am a first generation immigrant and college, father was an illegal immigrant. He died of cancer when I was in 6th grade. My mother does not speak any English, I had to take care of the family business and my mother since then. We used my father's health insurance money to pay for my first year at Boarding School but was kicked out because we can't afford the next year. I then moved to the East Coast from California with my mother and my first Sophomore year I had a lot of family issues. Second Sophomore year a prep school gave me a scholarship to attend, and there I strived as you can see. My years before boarding school I lived in the ghetto (literally) and thats why I did not do so well at boarding school. Sophomore year 1 had a lot of family issues.
I am also fluent in Mandrain and Cantonese. Almost there in Spanish.
My school is a feeder to Penn sending 10+ kids annually out of about 100.
I am also a Philadelphia city resident which helps a lot.

I am super nervous and please tell me what you think objectively.

I think that any school with a truly wholistic review process will accept you. Your freshman year grades don’t look so hot, but that can easily be attributed to the fact that the dust was still settling from your father’s death, plus, you showed a commitment to academics and perseverance with an undeniably strong upward trend. Plus, your standardized scores are on point. I think you’ll get in just about anywhere you want.

Seriously, your application to Wharton is one of the best I have seen so far due to the holistic nature of it. Usually, I would say that wharton is a reach for everybody, but I’d be surprised if you didn’t get in ED. So jealous of your app~ (future wharton ED applicant)

the upward trend in gpa looks very good. your test scores are solid as well. however this could be a real toss up because Wharton is a real reach for everyone, so good luck

i think you have a really great chance. Your test scores are high and your ECs are not only extensive but impressive. Due to your extenuating circumstances and hardships you faced I believe you have a VERY good shot!

Sorry for the late response, but honestly I think you have a really good chance!! If you talk about how your past has shaped your current academic standing and how you incorporate that into your extracurricular activities, you are a really strong candidate.

Your app as a WHOLE is very strong. Use what you told us about your personal life to your advantage; it definitely clears up any questions about your academics. I think you have a pretty good chance, and I’m rooting for you!

To be honest man, I think you have a great shot at whatever schools you are applying to. There is definitely a strong upward trend, and your EC’s and story are inspiring. Good luck!

Everything in your application is very very strong especially your ec’s. The only thing I would comment on that may lose you some points is your freshman year gpa, but it doesn’t hold as much weight as say your junior gpa especially since you took harder classes. Overall Wharton admissions are so unpredictable but I can tell you that you’re a competitive applicant. Good luck!

Wow you have an awesome résumé man! I think that your scores are very impressive and your GPA won’t effect you negatively because of the upward trend, stellar EC’s, great scores, and various hardships. Good luck!!

thanks for chancing me, as everyone said, your story is compelling, can u pls expand on why you want to go to wharton and major in whatever your choosing to major in?

That’s impressive! You’re truly a whole rounded applicant, and since apps are holistic, everything put together looks great. Upward trend in your GPA is a huge plus! And your ECs are fab.
You’re definitely a competitive candidate!! Good luck, and let us know how it goes :)
