What is all this talk about Wharton ED and Hooks?

because whartonites like to go fishing in the biopond

1) You have to realize that about 40% of people accepted to Penn ED have a hook, such as legacy, athletic recruitment, minority status(excluding asians), or big donations.

2) Wharton makes up 20% of Penn’s undergrad student body, and yet it is by a mile the most desirable degree program. Accordingly, many of the hooked will try to parlay their hook in to Wharton admission(or in the case of highly recruited athletes, Wharton ED admission will be offered to steer them away from HYP). Thus, the hooked percentage in Wharton will creep above 40% while the overall percentage of hooked remains at 40%

You’re taking that statistic out of context. The statistic itself states that 40% of ivy classes are hooked. The only way your claim could be true is if you’re maintaining that Penn seeks to preserve this ratio in ED and RD admits – and there’s no evidence to back that up.

But Choklit’s right in that Wharton, proportionally, has more hooked kids than any other school in Penn.

^ If anything, ED would be higher than the overall statistic of 40%. It’s when all the legacies get a boost, and it’s when athletes are encouraged to apply.

minority is no match of a hook as a legacy or big donation
they shud not be used in the same sentence.

^ minority status is MORE of a hook than legacy, but less of a hook than development(aka big donation).
