Recs/Essays
Recs should be outstanding
Essays should be very good, maybe excellent. I am considering talking about my mission trips and our need to extend help to other nations and people.

I would love to hear what you guys have to say about my application and I am open to suggestions on ways to improve my application.

Thanks

Having only a 3 for an AP score is not good, but u can’t change that now. I would just say go for it. if u want penn, apply early and write good essays and keep yr fingers crossed.
ACT scores are average. U can retake them to bump them up, but that’s yr call.
Seems like u like business, so that’s good in terms of interest.

Anyone else?

Anyone…?

Any more suggestions?

nice screen name haha… well, as you know, getting into Wharton is really tough- they routinely turn down people who get 2300+ and a string of 5s on their APs… if you’re interested in business either in a corporate role or in investments, I’d strongly suggest NYU Stern ED. It’s a great program- in terms of academic content equal to Wharton, students with somewhat lower standardized test scores, but significant recruiting on Wall Street. Also, being in NYC affords you the option of doing school year internships your soph/junior years…

i don’t see it happening. in 2009 wharton is just too competitive. being interested in business isn’t enough. your whole app needs to be HYPS caliber.

Thanks. Anything I can do from now until October to improve my chances?

mainly just standardized testing and essays.

Doing anything from now to October won’t be useful really. Colleges don’t really look much at what you do during or right before your senior year (unless you are continuing to do something you have done for years before). Why? Because they know that a lot of students are trying to jam things in just for application sake. They want to see commitment and so they care about what you have done the other years and that is weighed more. If you are continuing to do something you have done years before, then colleges will look at that as commitment. But if you are just starting something new this year, then it won’t improve your chances.
There is this college rep that said that they don’t want to see on a student resume: 1 club freshman year, 2 clubs sophomore year, 4 club sophomore year and then 6 clubs senior year. In other words, they don’t want to see you suddenly adding on new things in your senior year.

But I stand a decent chance of being say waitlisted? I know my school has some connections there and one student who was waitlisted got in mainly because of the connections but he was CAS.

And I know about the clubs, I had some freshmen year and I’m not adding them. I’ll just try to make my essays as good as possible and my recs should be outstanding.
