Hi everyone,

I would appreciate your input on what you think my chances are of externally transferring into Wharton, and if my EC's will better my chances at all.

So, here are my stats...

I am extremely interested in transferring and look forward to your thoughts and ideas.

Thanks again,

Mark C.

anyone? I’ll return the favor if need be…

Is your Utah Life and Health Insurance Licensee more underwriting like or actuarial? Was your internship with Mass Mutual Financial Group more of an underwriting role or actuarial?

Also, considering that you’ve been rejected by University of Florida during regular decision merely a year earlier, I find your accomplishment during the summer of your senior year in high school beyond believe.

First off, thanks for replying, for a second I thought no one was ever going to…

Yes, I have really stepped it up since my senior year, I think that rejection letter from UF actually helped me out in the end, I was really disappointed at first but I became really involved here at BYU as a result of that experience.

As for the MassMutual internship and the license, I just started the internship, but it will be more of a client-focused/financial-advisory internship than an actuarial one.

The license focuses more on the basics of underwriting than anything else;however, I don’t believe I will be doing any actuarial/statistics-related work for the remainder of the internship.

Thanks again,

-Mark

In that case, I would say it’s worth trying. However, your internship experience won’t give you significant edge as it doesn’t really show your quantitative ability; it’s an underwriting job, not a finance job.

Every year only 25 external transfer gets into Wharton. It’s more of a crapshoot than pretty much anything else in the world. Don’t count it too much for it will most likely be an disappointment. However, make sure you also apply to other undergrad business schools. I’m almost sure that, as long as what you stated was true, you will get in somewhere.

May I add, those 25 external transfer that do get in are no doubt the cream of the crop. One of my this term’s TA was an external transfer. Let me tell you what, she’s a beast.

lol, thanks for the heads up… I am currently attempting to become a “beast” myself.

I wonder what her stats were like…
