I feel very fortune to have got into my two top choices, but now I'm having trouble deciding where to go. I am 99% certain I will be pursuing a career in finance, and I was very impressed with the Wharton career surveys that listed the all firms students in a particular year accepted offers from. Also, the dual degree M&T program is very appealing--two diplomas in 4 years, one from Wharton and one in the engineering school. Nonetheless, it's really hard to turn down the recognition and versatility of a Harvard degree.

I happen to know a few graduates from both schools, and the Wharton alumni I've spoken to are all working in fields that I'm interested in (private equity, hedge fund, ibank in Hong Kong, etc.) However, I'm sure Harvard's recruiting in finance is just as strong...

I also got into Stanford and Columbia, but so far it seems like those two schools are not as good a match for my interests and I'll probably be turning them down.

From a purely recruiting perspective, Wharton = Harvard in the fields you’re looking at and M&T will probably give you a slight edge. It may help to do more research in these areas. The fields you mention are in fact very different. The advantage of M&T will be more apparent in industries requiring more quantitative skills (like hedge funds but it does depend on what position you apply for). Prestige-wise, Harvard is indeed more renowned among the general public but M&T again will give you that extra edge with recruiters.

We’re really splitting hairs here though so decide based on fit. M&T is alot of work but gives you the recruiting advantage to boot. Go with where you feel you’d fit in more.

This really is a tough decision, normally I’d say H>W, but M&T is a spectacular program, it is ridiculously well respect on wall street and places better than Harvard on wall street, M&T kids truly are cream of the crop. You do however have to work a lot harder (completing 2 degree) than you would have to at Harvard (to do a single major). I think if it was M&T vs. Yale, I’d say M&T for the recruiting, but Harvard is closer, so this really is a tough decision, but not one that you can possibly go wrong with (unless you don’t fit in at all at the college of your choice)

you know there is another thread open for about a week discussion Wharton v. Harvard, but without the M&T twist… what did you think of that thread?

My question is, what would you enjoy more during your college career? When you think about being required to take a class in the realm of art/music history, or philosophy, or foreign cultures, is that exciting, or does it seem like a burden and a waste of time?

If you were interested in another field, I probably would’ve suggested Harvard. But for finance M&T will put you get the top of any recruiting list. The caliber of students in that program will blow your mind
