I'm just curious about the male:female ratio at Wharton.

I'm also curious, even if it's only anecdotal, are the women of Wharton as competitive and ambitious as the men to get into IB, PE, Hedge funds, etc. or are they pursuing mainly alternative career paths, maybe more suitable for family life?

I know my questions has some built in stereotypical notions but I'd like to see my D go for the highest she can achieve personally and professionally and it'd be nice to know she is in good company and not just one of a few like her.

^ In Wharton Undergrad’s Class of 2016, 42% are female and 58% are male:

Wharton is also in the middle of the campus. I think overall Penn is about 50-50?.We are pretty exited to go to Penn Preview day 2017. Go Quakers.

^ Yep. Overall, Penn undergrad–of which Wharton is an inextricably intertwined part in terms of academic, social, and campus life–is almost exactly 50-50:

Most of the female Wharton students are as ambitious, hardworking and intelligent as they come. Your D will be in good company or competition (since most Wharton grades are curved and As are capped). As for career choices there are many women who will start their careers in IB but as far as PE and hedge funds, their numbers decrease. PE and hedge funds don’t have too many entry-level positions that start right out of college and by that time a lot of women will have decided on a career path based on work/life preference.

My son, a Wharton grad, works in a hedge fund in NYC and among 60+ investment professionals at his firm, only 5 are women. Most professional women I’ve encountered whose income exceeds $400K are either single, childless or have husbands whose work schedules are very flexible.
