Generally speaking, how much harder is it to get into Wharton early compared to The College?

Also, for the "name a professor you would like to study with and why," is it ok if I named a science professor even though I'm applying to Wharton?

not sure why you'd conduct academic research in science if your curriculum and career goals lie in business.

This has been discussed a lot before. Generally the Wharton acceptance rate nowadays is around 1/2 the College acceptance rate or, stated the other way 'round, it's twice as hard to get in. Equally true on ED and RD. This does not mean Wharton is "twice as good" or anything like that - it just reflects the smaller # of seats at Wharton vs. the # of people desiring to go there.

If your "name" is in the sciences, and you're assessing the odds of getting into the College, maybe you should consider whether Wharton is really your goal. If undergrad business is truly your goal then the College is NOT a good alternative to Wharton - you'd be better off at another B-school. Maybe you want one of the joint progs? Don't imagine that you'll be able to get in the College and transfer later or that you'll be able to duplicate the Wharton curriculum using your College electives - ain't gonna happen.

I'd bet that 99% of Wh. applicants name a Wharton professor. Maybe naming a science guy would be a refreshingly offbeat choice that would impress the adcoms as a bold move. But only if you had some convincing story on how studying w/ this guy would somehow strengthen your Wharton experience. Otherwise it would come off as sounding like you don't really have your heart in Wharton. The message you DON'T want to send (even if it is true) is "my heart says science but my parents told me to go to Wharton 'cause I'll make more $".
