I know the Penn website "highly recommends" its applicants to submit SAT II Math scores, which basically means that it's required. But my score is far from being the perfect 800; in fact, it will be considered "bad" when compared to all the other applicants' scores. My question is if it's better to submit a lackluster score, or to not submit one at all (even though it's "highly recommended"). The score is a 700....

It means they highly recommend taking the Math II exam as opposed to Math I. Score choice is not an option with Penn. You have to send in all test scores, good and bad.

700 or more, or near 700, will not hurt you. All 700s or less, that’s another story perhaps.

I am hoping though that my son’s two 800s in Math II and the SAT Math section will make colleges feel less worried about his two C+ first-quarter grades, so I would hope that if the reverse is true for you, that you are stellar otherwise, one 700 (or 690) will not hurt.

Like they said above, just send it in. I got a 690 the first time I took the test, then a 720. Not the greatest, but it shouldn’t be the decision making factor. Remember, Penn admissions will be looking at the whole picture of your application. Good luck!
