I am just wondering if anyone can elaborate a little bit on options to fulfill the stat requirement in wharton. I know you can take either 101/102 or 430/431, but do ESE301/302 count? How do the three sets differ in terms of difficulty and extent of material coverage?

i have taken math 240 and 312, as well as AP stat in HS, but am only in single degree wharton. Can anyone speak about ESE301/302 in particular? thanks

Unless things have changed, you should be able to take ESE 301/302 for your stat requirement (check with an advisor).

Stat 101/102 is pretty easy from what i gather compared to the other two tracks. I think 431 and 302 cover Stat 101/102 in one semester. 431 wasn’t too difficult nor was it too fast. Stat 430 and ESE 301 are probability theory, so they’ll be more theoretical than 101 and a lot more challenging.

If you can take ESE or Stat 430/431 go with whichever has the better professor. I hear the ESE 301 professor for the fall is supposed to be pretty good, and I wasn’t too happy with Cai, who is teaching 430 this fall. If you got a 5 in AP Stat see if you can skip 430 (arguably toughest course I had to take at Penn) and jump into 431. 431 is pretty easy, and there were a fair number of people from ESE 301 in my 431 class.

If you did well in 240 and 312 you should be more than prepared enough for Stat 430 and I’d encourage you to at least try it out next semester.
