Wharton Transfer

I was wondering how hard is it for a person at NYU-Stern to transfer to Wharton with a GPA 3.7+ out of freshman year? sophmore year? Thanks

Harder than a group of Star Wars nerds watching the metal bikini scene in Return of the Jedi

Incidentally, your hero, Warren Buffet, transferred from Wharton (and Penn).

Haha yeah I know, but Wharton is realy my dream school.Would it be really hard if I also had a pretty good high school record?

haha you think it's gonna be hard for you?

Think about me...im gonna try to transfer next year from Rutgers U.

And I had very little leadership in hs. I dunno what I should declare as a major in rutgers u. I guess econ if i want to transfer?

why in the world do you want to transfer here if you have never even taken a day of class at the school to which you were accepted? this boggles my mind...

One of my frat bros transferred from NYU-stern to Penn-wharton. so it's possible

It's also possible to beat Tiger Woods and win the Masters Tournament, but you gotta be REAL lucky in both cases.

There seems to be an epidemic of people who didn't get in so they want to try again by transferring. Wharton only takes transfers if they have openings - basically someone else has to transfer out or drop out or die. Not too many do. So you are talking about maybe 20 spots or less for external transfers. That's 20 for the whole country, the whole world! So it's theoretically possible but not bloody likely. Guys (and ladies, though mostly it seem to be a guy thing - some guys have this with women too - they just can't deal w/ rejection and think that if they ask again the answer will change)- you ain't gettin' in. They didn't like you this year, they ain't gonna like you any better next year unless something really drastic happens (you win the Nobel Prize in Economics over the summer). Deal with it.

Stern is a great place - enjoy it and put all your energy into it, not into a place that doesn't want you and almost certainly won't want you next year either.

Put the transfer app in for the hell of it, but don't have any real expectation that you're getting in - think of it like a lottery ticket - your chances are about the same.

Percy, I was never rejected from Wharton because I have never applyed. I applyed to Stern ed because, in my school, I was competing against legacies and a kid whos parents donated millions. One kid, who was not a legacy, got into Yale and MIT but not UPenn. Anyway, I will actually be working for a visiting professor at Wharton this summer, so I guess that should help.

hey warren_buffett89,

seems like you and I both wanna transfer out.
I called and asked about the transfer thing, and you can to if you want to.
They are looking for not only high GPA, but leadership in the college community, especially if you are like me and had absolutely no leadership in high school.

The plot thickens - it's your dream to attend Wharton but you didn't apply. OK. Then you have to explain to them why you didn't and not the story that you told us. Somehow you have to come up with a story that will "sell".

heh warren, im gonna go with percy on this. that story wont sell to the adcom, as they will thin you applied based on statistics and percentages rather than desire to attend a school. but perhaps this is a message for all of you desiring to transfer next year - a large majority of you will change your minds :) youll make friends, and undoubtedly grow accustomed to your new schools. i know its hypocritical for me to say this, but give your school a shot first, and try to enjoy it. if you still want to transfer next year, then definitely do so, but dont go to college being obsessed with penn. im in a rut right now and im trying to pull out of it, so please, try to ignore my hypocritical statements, and instead heed the advice many others have given me :)

Sorry about your decision impboy :(
Where are you going next year?

Warren: Best of luck, man

Yeah, I really did want to apply, but I had no choice. My GC told my parents and myself not to waste my ED application on Wharton and to apply to Stern instead. She even said Stern would be a reach because many kids from my school were doing ED, but I was accepted. And I will do everything in my power to transfer to Wharton.

Sigh, people. Focus on being happy. You'll go quite far with a Stern education. If you're always chasing Wharton, you'll never be happy.

^Coveney speaks words of wisdom and not sarcasm. We must make note of this, the last day of Passover (it's the last day right?)

Ofcourse, I am happy. I am very blessed to be in the position that I am in. But there is nothing wrong with wanting more.
