Wharton Undergraduate chances?

This summer I was lucky enough to land an internship at Goldman Sachs and during my time there I have realized that I am extremely interested in finance/business/economics/etc. I live close to Penn and before I visited the campus I was really skeptical about going to college near home. When I visited the campus itself my opinion completely changed and Ive decided that this is the place I want to go for college. Given my interests, obviously Im going to look into Wharton Undergraduate. Ive head all types of rumors about how much harder Wharton is to get into than any of the other colleges within Penn, but can someone give me an answer based on what my credentials are?

Freshmen Year: 3.8 GPA
Sophmore Year: 3.7u 4.1w
Junior Year: 3.75u 4.35w
I have various academic honors (spanish honors society, highest honors, probably something else im forgetting)

SAT: 2230 (750m, 700r, 720w)

ACT: (may take in fall)

SAT II: Math II-730 (definitely taking another in fall)

As far as extracurriculars go, I have joined various clubs and done various community service activities but honestly none of them are worth mentioning. Crew is a 3 season sport for me and it takes up most of my spare time. I am a 3 year varsity rower and have been in contact with the penn lightweight coach.

Given the assumption that I do end up getting recruited, what do my chances look like? Should I just not even bother with wharton and go straight for the CAS?

Wharton is one of the most selective colleges in the world. Therefore, there will be many factors that you must overcome. You should aim for higher SAT II’s, and your GPA is also a little low for Wharton. Also, what is your race? You still have a shot at Wharton, but I am sad to say that it isn’t an extremely high one.

slim to none

Im white. Do you think Id be a better fit for the college?

no that probably hurts your chances

Wasn’t asking you but thanks for your delightful insight.

Few suggestions. raise that math 2 score, try to be your Crew team captain. Wharton cares a lot about two things in particular: math and leadership.

if you can get recruited, you have a great chance. I’m not sure what you did at your internship, but being an intern at Goldman Sachs is very impressive, so I suggest if possible, try to get a good extra recommendation from whoever you worked for. Good luck.

lol where the hell do people get off telling other people to try to be captains?

people on this site must go to very small schools

in a large school, you need an innate physical ability to be captain. 90 of the team won’t have the potential to be captain. i guess in a small school you could just work harder

Ahhh, we’ve got a future Capitalist Pig on our hands, (just kidding…sort of).

My good friend with a 3.86 UW 2260 who was the coolest kid ever got rejected

As the above posters said, Wharton is a HARD school to get into. They’ve gotta see the true Warren Buffet in you.

It will be tough with current scores. We would also know your rank. The Goldman job isn’t going to help, they are well aware that high schoolers who have these internships get them through connections. Don’t get me wrong (my kids did them too), it will help in the sense of having the exposure.

Thanks for your input everyone. I guess what I’m trying to find out is if I am that far out of the ball park when it comes to people who do end up getting admitted. I know my SAT scores and gpa aren’t perfect, but if I get recruited do I have any chance? What are the admissions statistics for Wharton? Are they much different than the college of arts and sciences?

Sure, you probably have the stats for a recruit. Work on raising the scores.

it was a two years ago that i applied to wharton for my undergrad, and just by looking at the numbers i would agree, chances are looking slim.

i had a 3.9 unweighted gpa, 4.3 weighted. scored 4’s on 3 diff ap tests. leadership in NHS, Student Gov, and captain of deabte team, two time state champ and ACT of 31 (which is probably what killed me) and i still didn’t make the cut…got on the big fat wait list, which in my mind sucks more than the rejection letter.

best of luck. raise the scores.

but seriously. undergrad doesnt matter. just go there for grad school :P

thats my plan anyway.

Do you have any business background whatsoever? AP micro/macro. Run your own small business (lawn mowing, babysitting, snow shoveling). Also I go to a big public school and will be the Captain of one of the varsity teams, if your coach does not select you for this it shows you lack leadership, a characteristic Wharton looks for. I would rethink Wharton. Your scores are mediocre for Wharton. Try applying arts and sciences, you still can take excellent business classes at Penn.

Good luck with your college admission process.

Hey I’m just a sophomore and I have a 2200 on the SAT(I’m retaking in a month) and I really like Wharton any advice?

make your own thread and show us your stats

Your SAT is probably good enough for Wharton, but your GPA seems a bit low. Also, most people I’ve met from Wharton have pretty strong ECs.

However, if you can spin your GS internship into something good, and if you can show that you really love finance/business, then I think you have a good shot.

With your stats and based on what you said, I would recommend applying for Wharton ED
