It is my understanding that you take EITHER the SAT I and two subject tests or the ACT (with writing, obviously). Does this mean that if I have a 36 on the ACT (purely hypothetically) and 800's on multiple subject tests, with a SAT score of 1800, I would have to either pick the high ACT score or the low SAT I with the subject tests? This is obviously a scenario which highlights the extremes of the process, however I am just curious. If I were to send subject tests to UPenn along with the ACT, would my subject tests be complete ignored? Thank you!

I sent in ACT with two subject tests and no SAT I. I don’t know if this helps answer your question at all, but yeah. I don’t think they ignored my SAT IIs.

Thanks! It appears from their website that the SAT IIs wouldn’t be considered if you sent in the ACT with writing. I guess that it wouldn’t hurt for me to take a couple of them prior to my application.

Hm. Did not know that. But yeah, it definitely doesn’t hurt! :]

I only took the ACT but took 3 SAT II’s… what I’m thinking is they def look at them (especially the math SAT 2)

if you haven’t taken the SAT, I think that is fine (many people told me that it wasn’t but I got in anyway with a 34)

I didn’t know that if you sent the ACT they don’t look at your SAT II’s…I took 3 subject tests and sent in my ACT. I hear that Math II is pretty important for Wharton, but I’ve never heard that from an official source…I did very well on everything (36 ACT / 800/800/780 on subject tests) and will be a frosh at wharton this fall (admitted RD). Didn’t take the real SAT. Just my info. Don’t mean to brag, just hope this helps. PM me if you have more questions.

So ultimately, send in the subject tests w/ the ACT. If you can.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I’m probably just going to take the Math Ic and Math IIc subject tests, as I feel like these require the least amount of preparation (which in turn allows me to focus on other parts of my application).

Well, let me tell you, scores are not everything. I’m a current Wharton student, I took the ACT and 2 science subject tests (biology and chemistry). My ACT composite score was very low, in fact my Math score was the lowest. My subject test scores weren’t stellar either. Don’t fixate yourself on scores, do “cool ****” and decently well on tests 700+ on subject tests and 28+ on the ACT, and it’s a crap shoot at the end of the day.

28+… that’s hideously low. While I agree with you on most points since my subject test scores were not fantastic either, try for 30+ composite for ACT. Based on the class of 2013 profile, 30-35 was the 25th to 75th percentile. While college admissions are quite the toss up, I think 30+ may be more favorable in comparison to 28+. Don’t get me wrong, I know people get accepted below that range as well, but this is just my opinion of where the composite ACT score should be.

I agree, my point was that they accept students outside the 30-35 bracket
