wharton vs. stern

how do the two undergraduate business programs compare? which school is better for what?

the help is much appreciated. thanks.

wharton > stern

Well it goes both ways IMO. I have to say that you can’t really say that one is totally better than the other. The difference is so tiny. Graduating from either one will give you just as good as a job opportunity as the other.

wharton is supposed to be much better than stern for anything related to business

better education/internships/jobs etc… they’re both very good, though. and stern gives you NYC which is a plus

NYU acceptance rate is like 28% and Wharton is like 9%. If you follow the market-like voting process for prestige (every individual application is a vote) than you can see that Wharton is several times more desirable than Stern.

You get the upper hand with jobs because you’re an Ivy graduate (and banking isn’t as much about brains as it is about prestige) and Wharton will give you more job options whereas Stern pretty much forces you to either go to Wall Street or grad school.

I think people who don’t get into Penn go to Stern for business. That said, I’m sure you can still get a wonderful business education at Stern.

is it significantly easier to get into stern undergrad than wharton undergrad? doesnt being in nyc make getting internships and experience MUCH easier than being in pennsylvania?

It’s wayyy harder to get into Wharton than to get into Stern

Wharton admits like 9% of applicants.

Wharton undergrad is like Harvard undergrad if you want business.

Harvard isn’t in NYC, but that doesn’t matter at all. Same goes for Wharton; at that level of reputation it doesn’t matter where you live, because they’ll come to you.

Wharton’s acceptance rate for 2009 was around 12%. Stern’s acceptance rate was around 18%.

Wow. Acceptance rates aren’t everything. Instead of basically saying “Wharton is better because the acceptance rate is 1%” you should be giving him reasons WHY Wharton is the better school. Jeez.

Anyway, I really can’t harp on these 2 schoosl, tbh. I’ve heard a lot about Stern and Wharton. I’m actually impressed with Wharton as the graduates leaving the school has had a lot of success and have acquired a great education from the school. Now as for Stern, I also hear their program is really great. My friend is going there and she’s excited about it because their program is one of the top in the nation.

^ um beatfeaks? I was just trying to be helpful in giving the OP the updated acceptance rates as it was mentioned throughout the thread. I wasn’t implying that Wharton was a better school. I’m an incoming freshman to Stern. yeah.

well actually Penn doesn’t release Wharton’s acceptance rate, so if you were an incoming student to Stern, you wouldn’t know. Wharton’s acceptance rate was actually a little under 9% this year. I know this because I’m an incoming student at Wharton and I was told at the preview day for accepted students.

Yes.

No.

Your source?

This is correct, based on my personal experience.

Not everyone gets the top job so by going to Wharton, you’re simplifying the competition for the employer because the adcom has already weeded the ambitious kids down.

False. Many standard banking or consulting top firms won’t even recruit at Stern.

Wharton by far. You have your foot in the door to every business opportunity available by graduating there with a decent GPA. Sure, Stern students do too but a Wharton graduate is FAR more sought after than a Stern grad… for most everything. Check out the list of Wharton alumni :P

@crescent22: “Many standard banking or consulting top firms won’t even recruit at Stern.”
I think that is extremely false considering stern’s location in NYC and it is in fact one of the best business schools and what are your sources??

I pretty much agree that both schools are good but wharton is wharton lol… what about the quality of life at wharton?

I asked my dad this question the other day. He is a CFO and he said that there in nothing like a degree from Wharton. He said that Stern is one step lower than wharton, which stands alone.

^ did your dad get his degree from wharton? and what about wharton vs. mcintire??

bmburr82’s words were repeatedly confirmed by my close friend who is now working on wall street (he graduated from McIntire) --Wharton is in a league of its own.

And no, a state school cannot come close to a private, Ivy-league school. Only reason UVA got that far is because of its sheer size. Quantity over quality.
