Do you need to have business background or been involved in business programs in order to apply to wharton?

No, but it’s helpful.

How helpful?

If your not you are probably going to get rejected

Lots of students get in without a rigorous business background. Adcoms know that whatever “business” stuff you do in high school (FBLA/DECA/Competitions) is complete bs compared to what you will learn at Wharton.

You just need to demonstrate that you have the potential to succeed in business. For that, academics and demonstrated leadership will help the most.

I had absolutely no business experience in high school, and hey, I got in.

Based on what I saw in my friends and classmates, the vast majority of Wharton students didn’t have any meaningful business experience, either.

@"Keasbey Nights"

Just wondering- if that is the case, dyo think that having business experience can help an applicant stand out?

I think its qualities like passion, leadership, ingenuity, integrity, etc. that helps. If your business experience helps you to display those traits, it should help. I don’t know if simply making money is enough. Someone else may be able to confirm or deny that idea.
