I'm not really worried about this one, but I was just curious if anyone had any input on Wharton living? So far I've gotten the impression that I'm incredibly fortunate--I'm sharing a quad with three fabulous people on the first floor of AB (102), and I've been assigned to a single (B). Does anyone have thoughts on the singles' size? Doubles residents resenting singles' privacy? Tile floors? Hall life? Is there anything I actually should be concerned about? Etc. etc.

Thanks, as always!!

Can't help with Wharton except to say that, year in and year out, it is the most sought after dorm at Swarthmore in the housing lottery. Beautiful old building. Outrageous courtyards. Great location.

If there's any downside, I guess it would be that there aren't a ton of first year students in Wharton like there are in the other dorms, but that's huntin' to find any kind of a downside.

Basically, you won the lottery to get Wharton freshman year. Nobody in your class with get a sniff of it again until they are seniors.

S lived there as a senior, so i can't really say what the quads are like or what it's like for a freshman to live there. I do know that the three sections of the building are separate, so it's really like three buildings. I only saw the dorm graduation weekend when only seniors were left, so I can't really answer your questions. It is a highly desirable dorm though.

I lived there freshman year, and it's looooovely. Absolutely gorgeous. And saying that there aren't a ton of freshmen isn't really true - almost half of every hall on AB and EF are freshmen (12 on each floor), you'll have plenty of company. The only downsides are the mice, sometimes the noise from courtyard parties when you live facing the courtyard, and the hallways are small for hanging out.

The singles are realllly nice. If you're in a quad, there is very little chance you'll be in the single all year long, no matter where you were assigned. I only know one group of girls who stuck with their assignments for the whole year, and they just wouldn't have worked it out any other way with their weird schedules, haha. You'll probably get a single half of the year, which is really nice. Hall life is okay, it depends on where you are. About half of my hall was active, and I'm friends with half of the freshmen on my hall, we'd have campouts in the lounge all the time.

You really can't wish for a better place than Wharton your first...or really, any, year. :]
