Honestly, how difficult is it? I'm at a private school, which is one of the best in my area, but it's not challenging. How hard are the classes? What's a "good" GPA (for jobs)? Could someone that actually goes to Wharton just explain how it is and their background.

I might want to mention a 3.65 senior who is going to work full time for goldman sachs next year. The average GPA from Penn is a 3.6. Any more worries? :P

Classes are generally curved to a 3.0 (slightly higher with college courses factored in) but honestly, it’s not all that difficult. Many people fool around or put too much energy into jobfinding etc which is why their grades suffer. As long as you’re on top of your studies, its not incredibly hard to pull 3.8s. Guaranteeing a 4.0 is significantly harder since the curve forces cutoffs that will cause you to drop in letter grade over a somewhat small screw up. Inherently, the coursework isn’t that difficult though.

Would getting a degree from Wharton (vs. a state school) be worth if I wanted to work in the south?

Depends on the field, you could always start out in nyc for a few years to get some experience and then have a MUCH higher starting point than any of your peers when you decide to move to the south to work. Generally, I’d say yes but if you want to do something like logistics, it may not make a huge difference.
