I was reading around the forum for Penn and I seem to come across a lot of negativity towards Whartonites. I was wondering what some people that go to Penn think of them.

I'm applying to Wharton but I am definitely not stuck up at all, I'm actually pretty chill and goofy normally, and serious/competitive when I need to be. So if the majority of Whartonites are snobby, does it mean that the adcoms like that kind of people? If so then I'm screwed, but then again I wouldn't want to be in a classroom of snobs...

I just want opinions but also try to be objective. Thanks a lot! =]

This topic has been discussed many times before; do a search and you will find many opinions. Once you are on campus, you will find no one cares one way or another which school ( CAS, SEAS, Wharton, Nursing ) you are attending.

My friend who's a senior at Wharton thinks it's the worst school ever; might be a bit exaggerated..but I have an impression that he doesn't like it much. He thinks it's a bit fake.

I think it's simply that a lot of Whartonites grow a big ego by getting into the school, and taking courses there since they feel they are so much more superior intellectually and academically.
At least that's what most Penn students complain about.

I would agree with Matt, but I'd say there's definitely a mix. You will find college/engineering students who will berate Whartonites for "selling their souls for money" or claim that their own classes are more "intellectually stimulating and satisfying." Or you simply run into students who overcompensate as a result of an inferiority complex.

On the other hand, you will find Whartonites who basically think that the other colleges are in a lower echelon and aren't nearly as difficult/satisfying/worthy of respect. There are a few people I've come across who basically burn their bridges with certain students if they're not Whartonites like they are (and must therefore not be worth getting to know).

Both types of people exist at Penn, but in general, those types are few in number. Most people are pretty chill about it and don't care one way or the other what you are studying. If they do, they're likely tools who you don't want to associate with anyway.

Yeah, basically there are two species of Whartonites--the snobs and the rest. The latter do outnumber the former.

I think any perceived differences fade through the years as you take classes in each others' schools, take classes with each other, get the same internships and jobs (for those in Wharton who want non-biz jobs and for those in CAS who want Goldman Sachs, etc), and basically grow up.

And once you graduate, any lingering feelings fade away (if they haven't done so by senior year already) we are all Quakers, and we are all better than Tigers.

(both schools have plenty of chill, non d-bag people)
