What a depressing forum...

I signed up for this site as a bright-eyed, excited junior. I have spent a short amount of time on here and already am feeling so much worse about everything than before! I expected the posts on this forum to be from good students, of course. But it seems all I see are Ivy-hopefuls needing some reassurance that, yes, your stats are phenomenal. There is nothing wrong with wanting and striving towards greatness. I have a 4.0 and 33 ACT myself. But I feel that this is just filled with students who already know they have great stats and EC's, but want everyone to tell them that. I HAD felt good about my 33, but after seeing those with similar scores calling them "okay"... well it scares me a little!
But I have decided we should enjoy our scores. Hey, other 33's out there...we're in the 99th percentile. WE DID BETTER THAN 99 PERCENT OF PEOPLE. Enjoy it.
I know I may be chided for saying such things. I might be told about how there is nothing wrong with wanting to continue to improve and blah blah blahhhh. Which I understand. But does anyone get slightly depressed looking at these threads full of 4.0's and 35 ACT's wondering if they are good enough?

Most people aren’t good enough for Ivy-League schools.

well, it’s not like those 4.0 and 35 ACT people don’t know that they are good. it’s just that so many people with 4.0 and 35 ACT people have been rejected from top schools. they’re just acknowledging the fact that it’s getting tougher and tougher to get into a good school.

I’m a freshman, and I have to say, reading this site gave me a lot of insight as to how college admissions works.

Stats matter- but for a lot of people on here, their scores are their big ‘thing’. As long as you’ve found your passion and know the direction you’re heading, don’t stress because your stats are a point or two lower than the next guy. :)

To distract you from scores… rate my ecs? Haha, I’ll understand if you don’t want to- it’s pretty long.

Is this thread really necessary? Were you that traumatized by these threads? The downside to College Confidential is the increasing amounts of over-achievers that have high standards for themselves and others. Overlook it, or leave.

Remember that the people who post and comment on what your chances are have little to no idea of what goes through an admissions officer’s mind while reading an application. These comments really have nothing to substantiate them, other than what people have “heard” about college admissions. In other words, what someone says about your chances carries absolutely no weight, considering their likely knowledge of the subject.

Everyone would like people to tell them nice things…

…but most, including me, are genuinely unsure because of the ridiculously tough competition.

Yeah, I think that almost everyone knows at least one horror story about someone with great stats who got rejected from virtually everywhere. I’ve also noticed a lot of stress on ECs both on here and from people in general, so it’s nice to have an appraisal of those.

That, and parents (like mine >.<) can be quite discouraging…I think the forums can be a good way to ease genuine concern that lots of people have.

If you’re really that disheartened by the forum, you might want to stop reading haha. Just remember that it’s the admissions officer that makes final decisions, not the people on here.

Then you shouldn’t have signed up.

That is entirely up to you. Nothing we can help with.

It’s called only read into stuff from people who have actually gone through the process, not people who haven’t.

You haven’t seen people with below 2000 SAT and below 30 ACT get in?

Other people do enjoy their scores. It’s your own problem if you can’t enjoy yours.

Do you?

Please tell me that you know excellent GPA + Test scores alone will not get a student into Ivy league schools.

lol funny stuff
