What!? A Repeat of passages on ACT!?

I noticed that several of the passages in the December 12, 2009 ACT were exactly the same articles as previous ACT tests from the last school year (I've taken the ACT five times now in the last year). Is this typical? And has anyone else noticed this?

It really helped with the completion time of the tests, especially since I worked really hard on improving the facets in which I lacked aptitude... :)

whats not typical is that you’ve taken the ACTs 5 times…do you have a life!!!

Yes, I’ve got a life. If it’s offered multiple times, why not take advantage of that? There’s nothing wrong with improving your previous scores. It shows willingness to work hard for something.

it makes me laugh when people ask people if they got a life because of number of act or sats they have taken. i bet people who say that have no friends but act like one since its over internet. LOL

muy interesente, OP…could you possibly tell us if you have taken 5 consecutive or did you skip a test? (i.e. Feb, April, June, Sept Oct, Dec…or did you skip one?)

I will have taken it 5 times… not hard… 1 in 8th grade 1 freshman 1 sophomore 1 (optional) Junior and 1 (manditory Junior)

went from 24, 27, to a 34… If i can get a 35/36 why not?

Rodney, I took it on the following dates:

October 2008

December 2008

February 2009

October 2009

December 2009

And then once in seventh grade, in February 2005. :stuck_out_tongue: But I wouldn’t count that one.

Holy crap Cody, I knew I wasn’t having deja vu! I’m glad you noticed this too. I am positive that I have done those English and Reading passages before, right from the getgo. Even a couple from the Science, like the petroleum, seemed familiar. In fact, so did the math, even though I can’t remember individual questions, the kilowatthr thing I know I’ve done before. I am a junior now, and took the ACT in 7th grade (February 05) and once last year in 10th. It may have been in the summer or the October 09 one like you did. The only practice tests I have ever taken are from my Real ACT prep guide, and I checked those. This is absolutely bizarre, I don’t know why they would recycle past test material. That shouldn’t be allowed

Krazyazn-

Okay, good I wasn’t the only one who noticed! I agree that ACT shouldn’t recycle test material, but hey, it didn’t hurt.

And yeah, there were two math problems that I immediately recognized from a previous test: the kilowatts one and the one about angle measures in a pentagon.

The genes and alleles section of Science seemed familiar, too. Actually, I’m pretty sure that I’ve had that exact same one. And the passage in science about petroleum was definitely familiar too. I feel like they got lazy and used half the test from previous years. Haha.

Edit: I took the ACT in Feb. 05 (definitely wasn’t that one) and in October 08 (not 09). So this must have been a repeat of the Oct. 08 ACT. And you’re right, it didn’t hurt.
